Chicago State University is seeking an experienced, innovative, and highly motivated Offensive Coordinator to join its FCS Division I football program. As a key member of the inaugural coaching staff, the Offensive Coordinator will be responsible for leading all aspects of the offensive unit, including game planning, play calling, player development, and recruiting. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the identity and culture of a new Division I program in one of the nation's most dynamic cities.
Job Description
Offensive System & Game Planning:
- Design, implement, and manage an offensive system that aligns with the program's overall philosophy and personnel strengths.
- Lead all offensive game planning, film breakdowns, and scouting of opposing defenses.
- Serve as the primary offensive play caller during games.
- Develop and adjust offensive strategies based on in-game situations and weekly opponent tendencies.
Player & Staff Development:
- Oversee the development of offensive position coaches and support staff.
- Mentor and develop offensive student-athletes to maximize performance and ensure academic and personal success.
- Implement individual and unit-specific training plans to enhance skill development and football IQ.
Recruiting:
- Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes who can compete at the Division I level.
- Work closely with the Recruiting Coordinator and Head Coach to manage offensive recruiting needs and strategy.
- Maintain strong relationships with high school and junior college coaches across key recruiting regions, especially in Illinois and the Midwest.
- Program Building & Leadership:
- Foster a positive, accountable, and competitive team culture.
- Assist the Head Coach with program operations, community engagement, and long-term strategic planning.
- Ensure compliance with all NCAA, conference, and university rules and policies.
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 5 years of collegiate coaching experience, including at least 2 years in an offensive coordinator or equivalent leadership role
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree.
- Previous experience coaching or coordinating offense at the FCS or FBS level.
- Experience in building or launching a football program.
- Familiarity with recruiting in urban and Midwest regions, particularly the Chicagoland area.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated success in offensive play calling and system implementation.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of NCAA Division I compliance standards and recruiting practices.
Versatility in offensive schemes (e.g., spread, pro-style, RPO, tempo-based systems)
Additional Applicant Information Physical Requirement/ Demands
- Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see, and hear to perform essential functions.
- Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 30 pounds.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged standing at athletic contests and events.
Work Environment
- Indoor and outdoor working environment in all weather conditions.
- Non-traditional hours will be required
- Travel to designated away events required
