A growing metal fabrication and machining operation in De Pere, WI is seeking a detail-driven Scheduler / Production Planner to coordinate, organize, and optimize the shop's daily and long-term workload. This position is critical to ensuring jobs are planned intelligently, resources are allocated properly, and production runs smoothly and efficiently across all departments. This is a Christian run operation that is aiming to develop and great culture.
Position SummaryThe ideal candidate has strong experience in metal fabrication or machining environments, with a solid understanding of processes, lead times, material flow, and typical constraints in a job-shop setting. This role requires someone who is analytical, highly organized, and capable of building schedules that reflect real-world production realities—not just theoretical timelines.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, maintain, and continually improve the master production schedule
- Review incoming jobs, interpret job requirements, and plan realistic timelines based on capacity
- Arrange and prioritize jobs based on due dates, materials availability, machine capacity, and labor resources
- Coordinate closely with machinists, welders, programmers, and leadership to understand workloads and constraints
- Track production progress and adjust schedules to keep jobs on track
- Identify bottlenecks, gaps in workflow, or conflicts in scheduling and proactively resolve them
- Ensure materials, tooling, and resources are available for scheduled jobs
- Communicate schedule updates, changes, and priorities to team members throughout the shop
- Maintain accurate job data within ERP/MRP or scheduling systems
- Provide insight and recommendations for improving throughput and reducing downtime
- 2–5 years of experience in production scheduling, planning, or coordination in a metal fab or machining environment
- Strong understanding of metal fabrication processes (cutting, welding, machining, finishing, etc.)
- Experience working with ERP/MRP systems and job-routing tools
- Ability to read and interpret job travelers, blueprints, and work orders
- Strong analytical and organizational skills with high attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with shop floor teams
- Proven ability to prioritize and balance multiple jobs in a fast-paced environment
- Problem-solving mindset with a continuous improvement approach
