The Washington State Investment Board (WSIB) is a dedicated global investment management organization with over $222.5 billion in assets under management. The WSIB operates in a hybrid work environment and this position should anticipate 60% of their time in the office.

The WSIB is seeking a qualified candidate to join our Information Technology team as an IT Security – Journey. This position maintains operational efficiency by utilizing security tools and software to monitor and safeguard the agency's security devices, systems, and operating environments. It assists with vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and threat modeling to proactively identify and mitigate risks. The role also provides expert consultation and technical support for the agency's local area network (LAN), analyzing user needs and evaluating, testing, installing, and maintaining core network equipment and software to ensure secure and reliable operations.

Duties

IF SELECTED FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY, YOU WILL:

  • Maintain and administer the agency's information security program, including security controls, risk assessments, threat modeling, and incident and disaster recovery exercises.
  • Monitor networks and endpoints for threats using log management, intrusion detection, and endpoint protection tools; evaluate security events and act as first responder.
  • Administer the agency's security awareness platform and conduct phishing campaigns to strengthen cybersecurity culture.
  • Run vulnerability scans, perform log management, and verify compliance with federal, state, agency, and industry standards through assessments and audits.
  • Coordinate with technical teams to address policy, compliance, and risk issues; provide guidance on secure technical solutions and advise on emerging threats and technologies.
  • Install, maintain, and monitor network and systems infrastructure; assist with data backup and disaster recovery to ensure operational continuity.
  • Work with customers to resolve technology issues and provide facilities-related technical support.
Qualifications

COMPETITIVE APPLICANTS WILL HAVE:

  • 5 years of progressively more responsible IT experience consulting, analyzing, scripting, installing and/or maintaining computer hardware and software applications
  • 1 year of experience in the following technical areas:
  • Systems/Network security
  • Network discovery and vulnerability assessments
  • Risk Management
  • Intrusion detection/prevention systems
  • Log management
  • Active Directory
  • Data Leakage Prevention
  • Expert level knowledge in LAN/WAN communications. (TCP/IP,DNS,DHCP, IP addressing Routing, Switching, and VLANS)
  • 5+ years of installing and maintaining Windows servers
  • 5+ years providing technical and customer support in information technology
  • 5+ years supporting Active Directory in an Enterprise setting
  • Experience configuring Network Firewalls
  • Demonstrated experience with the National Institute of Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework (CSF), NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF), and Center for Internet Security (CIS) controls

THE STRONGEST APPLICANT WILL HAVE:

  • An Associate's degree OR equivalent two years of vocational training in a technical field AND three years of progressively more responsible IT experience consulting, analyzing, scripting, installing and/or maintaining computer hardware and software applications, OR Bachelor's degree or higher in information security, information technology or closely related field
  • Skill in working with business owners and IT staff to identify weaknesses and assist in developing remediation plans.
  • Ability to anticipate, identify, and resolve information security risks and incidents that may adversely impact agency operations or projects
