Position: House Technician: The House Technician supports the Head Technician and Assistant Head Technician in the technical operation, and maintenance of event production within Daniels Spectrum, including Ada Slaight Hall and the Community Living Room. This role is ideal for a skilled, hands-on technician who thrives in a fast-paced, event-driven environment. The House Technician helps with crew activities, ensures the safe and professional execution of technical setups, and provides exceptional client service throughout all event stages.
Responsibilities:
· Using professional, clear and direct written and oral communication skills with all staff, clients and patrons, including the thorough documentation of event activities and issues, deescalating conflicts and troubleshooting to ensure event success
· Assisting staff and clients through the load in and set up, cueing, rehearsing, event and strike
· Directing clients to safety and emergency procedures and enforcing all safety standards and protocols
· Ensuring adherence of Ontario Fire Code, Ontario Building code, and ArtHubs policies, protocols and procedures
· Assist with the maintenance, organization, repair and replacement of equipment
· Participate in occasional professional training & development initiatives
· Participating in ArtHubs all staff meetings and other staff activities
· Demonstrating an understanding of the mandate and vision of ArtHubs and Daniels Spectrum
Qualifications:
· 2+ years' experience as a theatre technician
· Degree/diploma in theatre production from a post-secondary institution
· An understanding of non-profits and community organizations
· Clear communicator with excellent customer service skills
· Ability to troubleshoot and solve issues under pressure
· Flexibility to accommodate client's needs during events, while abiding by the CBA and ArtHub's policies.
· Strong working knowledge of event production elements, particularly video, along with hands-on experience in lighting, audio, and rigging.
Certifications:
· AODA Customer Service Standards and other AODA training as directed

· Elevated Work Platform Certification

The House Technician requires a professional standard of knowledge to install, operate, maintain and troubleshoot the following:
Video Systems, Projection & Signal Flow :
· Advanced operation of Blackmagic Television Studio and ATEM Mini Pro ISO/Extreme switchers, including multi-source routing, live switching, and real-time graphics integration.
· Setup, configuration, and troubleshooting of video signal chains (SDI, HDMI, CAT5/ CAT6, and fibre), including distribution, conversion, and latency management.
· Operation of DATAVideo converters, HDMI/SDI splitters, scalers, and format converters.
· Integration of video, audio, and presentation systems within Crestron PRO2 and DM-MDI 16x16 matrix switcher environments.
· Setup and alignment of Panasonic PT-DZ570 (4K) and Barco G62-W11 (12K lumens laser) projectors for large-format and blended projection applications.
· Knowledge of projection geometry, keystone correction, aspect ratio management, and edge blending.
· Maintenance and service of projection equipment, including lamp replacement, filter cleaning, lens adjustments and projector rigging.
Camera & Recording Systems:
· Operation of Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras for live capture, multicam, and ISO recording workflows.
· Proficiency in configuring camera settings (frame rate, ISO, white balance, colour space, LUTs) for consistent output across multiple sources.
· Working knowledge of camera communication protocols (HDMI, SDI, and timecode synchronization).
· Operation and routing of camera feeds to switchers, monitors, and capture devices for both local and streaming output.
· Experience managing camera rigging for live events—tripod, rail, and riser mounting, with attention to sightlines and audience obstruction.
Livestreaming & Recording
· Proficient in OBS Studio, vMix, and Blackmagic Web Presenter for streaming and recording workflows.
· Configuration of streaming protocols (RTMP/RTSP) for platforms such as YouTube, Twitch, and Vimeo.
· Setup of audio embedding and synchronization between X32 console output and ATEM Mini or Blackmagic Web Presenter input.
· Network configuration for livestreaming, including IP addressing, bandwidth management, and Ethernet distribution for redundant connections.
· Recording and archiving of event footage using ISO recorders and external SSDs, with attention to data management and file delivery protocols
Audio-Visual Integration:
· Integration of Behringer X32 audio feeds into video switchers for livestreams and recordings.
· Understanding of embedded audio, analog/digital signal routing, and delay compensation.
· Coordination between lighting and projection cues for synchronized media playback.
· Software & Playback Systems.
· Operation of QLab, PowerPoint, Keynote, and other applications for client playback, with integrated video switching and live cueing.
· Familiarity with media encoding, compression, and file formats (ProRes, H.264, DNxHD) for live and post-production use.
· Basic troubleshooting of playback latency dropped frames, and system resource management.
Lighting:
· Working knowledge in operating ETC Ion Lighting Console
· Operation of DMX/ArtNet lighting systems including movers, RGBW, and conventional fixtures; DMX troubleshooting.
· Ability to read lighting plots and Vectorworks drawings.
· Focusing, maintaining, and cleaning lighting fixtures.
· Basic programming and cueing using ETC Ion lighting console.
Audio:
· Working knowledge in operating Behringer X32 Audio Console
· Knowledge in variety of microphones, other audio equipment and suitable applications
· Operation of playback devices including personal music devices and computer applications
· Sound equipment maintenance and cleaning
Rigging & Staging:
· Rigging and alignment of projection screens, truss-mounted projectors, LED walls, and other technical equipment using appropriate safety-rated hardware and knots (Stopper, Bowline, Clove Hitch).
· Familiarity with rated drifts, aircraft cable, copper sleeves, and swagging techniques for secure video, lighting, audio, and set installations.
· Setup/strike of risers with proper legs, railings, skirting, and stairs.
· Operation of motorized telescopic seating unit.
· Knowledge of Ontario Building Code for height and railing requirements.
· Reading floor plans and Vectorworks drawings.
Power & Electrical Systems:
· Amperage calculations, load balancing, and monitoring.
· Experience with power distribution systems, including 3-phase.
· Operation and basic maintenance of ETC dimmers, including cleaning and basic maintenance.
