 Reporting to Grande Prairie Housing Manager, this position is responsible for assisting in development and facilitation of programs designed to enhance the physical, emotional, mental, social wellbeing of residents at Cedar Point Supportive Housing. This role oversees the day-to-day facilitation, administration and coordination of activities related to securing, setting up, and supporting recreational and skills programs and services. Other responsibilities include providing clear communication to volunteers, assisting residents with accessing programs and services, assisting with Client Support Workers duties as well as maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for participants and volunteers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement in-house programs which are consistent with housing program goals and of maximum benefit to residents: life skills including culinary, hygiene, financial management, boundaries, addiction support, and community supports as well as planning for seasonal events
  • Develop and encourage resident engagement in community initiatives
  • Refer residents to their Case managers whenever possible/necessary and ensure there are clear lines of communication with outside organizations who serve the residents
  • Ensure all materials and equipment needed for programs are ordered and in good working condition
  • Maintain inventory of recreational program materials and equipment
  • Develop and maintain partnerships in conjunction with the Housing Manager, to assist with providing programs
  • Work collaboratively with Volunteer Engagement department to utilize volunteers in programming, events, and activities, and ensure alignment with Volunteer Engagement policies and procedures  
  • Train and host volunteers as required 
  • Develop and conduct evaluations in collaboration with the Housing Manager to determine effectiveness of program activities
  • Collect data and generate reports on statistics as required
  • Ensure daily tidiness and cleanliness of the workspace and participate in daily sanitization of high touch areas
  • Complete incident reports as required
  • Complete required training and attend and contribute to team meetings and other events
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and adhere to all policies and procedures including but not limited to Health & Safety and HR policies and procedures
  • Other duties as may be assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Degree/Diploma in Human Services field or in the process of attaining same and/or related work experience
  • Frontline experience working with vulnerable populations and program facilitation
  • Program development experience is an asset
  • Demonstrated understanding of homelessness and desire to work with marginalized individuals
  • Demonstrated ability to engage, communicate and work effectively with a diverse range of people from various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Must be self-directed and can work independently as required
  • Ability to work within a collaborative team environment
  • Well-developed organizational, time-management, oral and written communication skills, and a high level of attention to detail
  • Good conflict resolution skills and ability to respond to crisis situations
  • Core computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Office Programs
  • Valid drivers licence, clear 3-year drivers abstract and access to a reliable vehicle with $2,000,000 liability insurance

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Flexibility to work evenings and some weekends required
  • Fast paced and challenging work environment
  • Moderate to significant physical effort required, including but not limited to lifting, sitting, standing, walking, driving personal and work vehicle
  • May be exposed to difficult situations such clients under the influence, potential violence, opioid exposure, infectious waste, diseases and conditions
  • Employees are to be aware that many of our clients may experience difficulties or impairment at times, which could result in them uttering threats, discriminatory statements, and other insults at your person. This may in a raised voice, or in seeing unpredictable behaviour up to and including the possibility of them becoming aggressive
  • Training on how to respond is provided, but this is to be considered typical working conditions. Many of our clients are unaware of the impact of these comments

 ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

This position requires the use of a company vehicle. Candidate must have and maintain valid driver's licence and will need to consent to a driver's abstract request.
