A Virtual Navigator is a professional who guides and assists undergraduate and graduate students throughout their journey as online learners. The Virtual Navigator plays a key role in student success by connecting online students with academic and support services, including assistance with navigating online platforms and tools. The work of the Virtual Navigator is essential to increasing retention and academic persistence.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Guide students in navigating online platforms and tools, including the institution's LMS, Student Information System, website, and other online learning tools.
- Conduct proactive and periodic communication with students via phone and email to connect them with academic and complementary wrap-around support services.
- Respond to student inquiries and concerns and collaborate with the appropriate staff and faculty when needed to resolve them.
- Identify barriers to student retention and persistence and follow up with at-risk students using early alert systems in collaboration with academic and administrative personnel.
- Advise students on institutional policies and processes, such as course registration and course or administrative withdrawals.
- Conduct orientation and training sessions.
- Maintain documentation of student interactions as required by internal and external policies and procedures.
Requirements:
- Availability to work evenings and rotating weekend half-days.
- Bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited institution; a master's degree is preferred.
- Fully bilingual in English and Spanish, with strong oral and written proficiency in both.
- Minimum of two years of experience in a similar position within a postsecondary institution.
- Strong organizational, coordination, multitasking skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (including Teams).
- Commitment to a high level of confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Previous exposure to student information and learning management systems.
- Professional oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain positive professional relationships.
