We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Opthalmic Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in a medical setting and demonstrate proficiency in aseptic technique, medical terminology, and anatomy. This role requires excellent customer service skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Please note: A minimum of **1–2 years of prior experience as an Ophthalmic Technician is REQUIRED. Applicants without at least 1 year of experience will not be considered.
Schedule:
This role is a part-time Monday through Friday position. The office hours are as follows:
- Monday: 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM
- Tuesday: 1:00 PM – 5:30 PM
- Wednesday: 1:00 PM – 5:30 PM
- Thursday: 1:00 PM – 5:30 PM
- Friday: 1:00 PM – 5:30 PM
Please note: The employee must be available to work Monday through Friday during any of the shifts listed above, as scheduling may vary based on the needs of the practice. Ideally, we are looking for someone available to work the afternoon shifts from 1:00 PM until close.
Duties:
Assist optometrists in the examination of patients, including taking vital signs and conducting visual acuity tests.
Perform manual vision checks as part of patient evaluations, including:
- Patient History & Symptom Review – asking the right questions to understand vision concerns and overall eye health.
- Visual Acuity Testing – accurately recording distance and near vision using Snellen or comparable charts.
- Refraction (Manual & Automated) – performing lens adjustments in the phoropter, refining results based on patient feedback.
- Ocular Health Screening – using direct ophthalmoscopy and slit lamp exams to assess the cornea, lens, and retina.
- Binocular Vision & Eye Muscle Testing – checking alignment, movement, and coordination of the eyes.
- Administer eye drops and inhalers as prescribed by the optometrist.
- Provide patient education on eye care and treatment options.
- Handle medical billing and insurance claims.
- Stay up-to-date with HIPAA regulations and ensure patient confidentiality.
- Utilize sales skills to promote products and services to patients.
Qualifications: **(Bilingual- Spanish Preferred)**
- At least 1 -2 years of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician is REQUIRED. THIS IS MANDATORY.
-Experience working with kids and pediatrics is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Post-secondary education in a related field, such as ophthalmic technology or medical assisting, is preferred.
- Strong understanding of anatomy and physiology knowledge.
- Proficiency in medical terminology and medical records management.
- Experience with aseptic technique and vital signs.
- Ability to work in a pediatric and adult setting.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations.
