District Maintenance Supervisor
Classified Position
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Possess valid Alabama Driver's License
- Training or experience in given trades is preferred.
- Appropriate local and state licenses.
- Proficient knowledge of all aspects of maintenance construction, repair, and service; electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, dry wall, painting, exterior structural and masonry/concrete.
- Minimum 2 years maintenance experience in a school system
- Effective communicator and leads by example.
- Display a friendly and positive attitude
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Will be required to be on call and must be available for emergency situations including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to supervise and make decisions.
- Knowledge of the tools pertinent to maintenance.
- Handle multiple projects and daily activities, meet deadlines, and develop plans on how to accomplish departmental and maintenance goals.
- Managing Asbestos in Schools and Buildings Training
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITES:
Knowledge of and skill to use the tools of the trade effectively. Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and local, state and federal requirements. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to direct and supervise maintenance crew. Ability to read and work from blueprints and sketches. Ability to perform crossover work in several trade areas.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise and direct facilities maintenance and operations and perform maintenance assignments in a safe and efficient manner.
- Supervises assigned personnel.
- Supervising in maintaining purchase, supply, inventory, usage, and material records.
- Investigates and responds to public inquiries and complaints.
- Responsible for planning of maintenance projects including scheduling of personnel (employees and contractors).
- Schedules predictive/preventative maintenance activities to keep all buildings and equipment in good working order.
- Develops and manages capital projects and their implementation.
- Work with vendors to consolidate purchases where cost savings can be derived.
- Manage work to be contracted out by planning the tasks to be completed, developing a scope of work, and contacting contractors for quotations.
- Coordinates with utilities, contractors, municipal public works departments and private individuals.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force as needed to move objects.
