Host Home Provider

Residential services provided in a single-family home setting are called host home services. Host home services are delivered under a host home provider subcontract with Vodec and are continuous services.

Host home services are formalized training and supports for the acquisition, retention, or improvement in skills related to living in the community. Formalized training and supports are not simply care and support; they are specialized, formalized training and supports. These include adaptive skill development of daily living activities, such as personal grooming and cleanliness, bed making and household chores, eating and the preparation of food, community inclusion, transportation, and the social and leisure skill development necessary to enable the individual to live in the most integrated setting appropriate to their needs. Host home services also include personal care and protective oversight as applicable to the consumer as well as supervision.

The individual pays monthly room and board to the host home provider. The host home provider is paid through Vodec for support services covered by state funds allocated for residential services.

How can someone become an Host Home Provider?
Vodec looks for people that treat people with respect, are caring, supportive and who have an extra room available in their home. Vodec prefers that the host home provider has some experience with people with intellectual or developmental disabilities, but it is not a requirement. Applicants should apply on Indeed. Vodec will work with you to match you up with a person this is looking to live in a host home setting.

Our goal is to create the best match possible between the host home provider and the person desiring supports. Host home providers must agree to a 12-month contract with the person. However, it is hoped that the relationship will last much longer. Vodec ensures that the host home provider meets all regulatory requirements and offers training to provide quality services and supports.

What is Required to Become a Host Home Provider?

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Complete an initial interview with Vodec staff
• Valid driver's license and auto insurance with reliable transportation
• Pass background checks as required by State regulation. Social security card
• Proof of home owner's insurance or renter's insurance
• Proof of current pet vaccinations
• Proof of high school diploma or equivalent
• Complete a physical exam and TB test successfully
• Completion of a required walk through to ensure a safe and comfortable environment
• Complete trainings as required by regulation
• Strong desire to support another person to succeed and live their best live

What Training is Provided by Vodec?

• CPR and First Aid
• Medication Manager Training
• MANDT Training
• Orientation to support people with developmental disabilities
• Documentation Training on the Therap database
• Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation training
• Mandatory Reporter

Major Responsibilities of a Host Home Provider

• Provide health maintenance activities, supervision, and assistance with personal needs as identified in the person's plan
• Complete and attend training as required by Vodec to meet applicable state and federal regulations. This includes becoming a medication manager.
• Provide supports to the person onsite and be immediately available to the person as required in the person's plan
• Complete all documentation as required by state and federal regulations
• Meet the nutritional needs of the person, which includes 3 meals per day following all dietary restrictions and guidelines laid out by the person's physician and the person's plan
• Provide transportation as needed per the person's plan

Reimbursement to Host Home Subcontractors
Vodec pays host home providers for providing habilitative services and supports. We offer a competitive rate. The contract amount is based on the person's authorized budget amount.
