Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Warehouse Forklift Operator to join our electronic recycling (e-waste) operations in Plainfield, Illinois. The ideal candidate will operate forklifts to move, locate, stack, and count materials within the warehouse while supporting responsible recycling, data security, and environmental compliance. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Forklift Operation

  • Safely and efficiently operate forklifts to transport electronic materials between storage areas, loading docks, processing lines, and outbound shipments.
  • Load and unload trucks and pallets, ensuring proper stacking, labeling, and secure placement of electronics and components.
  • Handle materials with care to prevent damage, cross-contamination, or data security risks.

2. Inventory & Material Control

  • Maintain accurate records of inventory levels, locations, and movements of e-waste and reusable assets.
  • Perform routine cycle counts and assist with audits as required.
  • Identify, report, and document discrepancies, damages, or non-conforming materials immediately.

3. Safety, Environmental & Compliance

  • Adhere to all safety guidelines, OSHA requirements, and company policies for forklift operation.
  • Follow environmental and recycling standards (e.g., R2/ISO practices, hazardous material handling where applicable).
  • Conduct pre-use inspections of forklifts and report maintenance needs promptly.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

4. Warehouse Organization & Process Improvement

  • Organize and maintain clean, efficient, and clearly labeled warehouse spaces to support recycling workflows.
  • Assist with sorting, staging, and preparing electronic materials for processing or shipment.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

5. Communication & Teamwork

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, drivers, and processing teams to ensure timely task completion.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to meet daily production and shipping goals.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a forklift operator in a warehouse, manufacturing, or recycling environment.
  • Valid forklift certification/license (preferred).
  • Knowledge of warehouse operations and basic inventory management systems.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to lift, move, and handle heavy or bulky items.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Forklift certification from an accredited training program preferred.
  • Experience handling electronics, scrap, or recyclable materials is a plus.

Working Conditions

  • Physically demanding role requiring standing, lifting, bending, and forklift operation throughout the shift.
  • Exposure to varying temperatures, dust, and moderate noise levels.
  • Indoor warehouse environment with occasional outdoor work during loading/unloading.
  • Must comply with Illinois OSHA, IDOL, and company safety requirements.
