About DSE

Data Science & Engineering Experts (DSE) is a pre-seed AI/ML consulting firm delivering intelligent solutions for healthcare, financial services, manufacturing, and federal government clients. We're building the infrastructure for rapid growth, with federal AI spending projected to increase from 5% to 62% of our revenue within three years. Join us at the ground floor and help shape the future of AI-driven enterprise solutions.

The Role

We're seeking a UI/UX Engineer who combines design thinking with technical implementation skills. You'll own the user experience across our AI/ML products and client deliverables—from initial research and wireframing through high-fidelity prototypes and production code. This is a hands-on role that requires both creative vision and the ability to bring designs to life in code.

You'll work at the intersection of data science and user experience, translating complex AI/ML capabilities into intuitive, accessible interfaces. Our products surface machine learning insights to business users who may not have technical backgrounds—your job is to make the complex feel simple.

Key ResponsibilitiesUser Experience Design

  • Conduct user research, stakeholder interviews, and competitive analysis to inform design decisions

  • Create user personas, journey maps, and information architecture documentation

  • Design wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups for web and mobile applications

  • Develop and maintain design systems and component libraries ensuring visual and functional consistency

  • Translate complex AI/ML outputs (model predictions, confidence scores, feature importance) into intuitive visualizations

Frontend Development

  • Build responsive, accessible user interfaces using React, , or Angular

  • Implement data visualizations using , , Plotly, or similar libraries

  • Write clean, maintainable HTML, CSS/SCSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript code

  • Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate RESTful APIs and real-time data streams

  • Ensure WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility compliance across all user-facing products

Collaboration & Delivery

  • Partner with data scientists to understand model capabilities and translate them into user-facing features

  • Work directly with clients to gather requirements and present design concepts

  • Participate in agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily standups, and retrospectives

  • Contribute to a culture of design thinking and user-centered development practices

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of combined UI/UX design and frontend development experience

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating both design work (research, wireframes, high-fidelity mockups) and implemented code

  • Proficiency in design tools: Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD

  • Expert-level HTML, CSS/SCSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript skills

  • Production experience with at least one modern frontend framework (React preferred)

  • Experience creating data visualizations and dashboards

  • Understanding of responsive design principles and mobile-first development

  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design practices

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, HCI, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent professional experience and/or industry certifications such as:

  • UX/UI: HFI-CXA, HFI-CUA, PDUX (UX Design Institute), IDF UX, CPUX-F (UXQB), ACE-XD, Google UX Certificate, Bentley UX, UX-PM

  • Front-end development: AZ-204, AAD, Meta FED, W3C Front-End, React Pro Cert, CWP-WD, PSD

  • Ability to work effectively in a fully remote, startup environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing interfaces for AI/ML products, analytics platforms, or data-intensive applications

  • Completion of advanced Figma or Sketch courses with certificates from reputable providers

  • Familiarity with Python and data science workflows (Jupyter notebooks, pandas)

  • Experience with enterprise or B2B SaaS product design

  • Background in healthcare, financial services, or federal government UI/UX requirements

  • Experience with design systems at scale (Storybook, design tokens)

  • Knowledge of motion design and micro-interactions

  • Previous startup experience or comfort with ambiguity and rapid iteration

Technical Environment

Our current stack includes React, TypeScript, Python, AWS, and various visualization libraries. You'll have input into tooling decisions as we scale. We use Figma for design collaboration and JIRA for project management.

What We Offer

  • Meaningful equity stake in a high-growth AI/ML consulting firm

  • Remote-first culture with flexible working hours

  • Direct impact on product direction and company growth

  • Opportunity to work on diverse AI/ML applications across industries

  • Collaborative team of experienced data scientists and engineers

  • Health insurance and benefits upon seed funding

  • Professional development budget for conferences, courses, and certifications
