The Goodyear House – Who Are We?

The Goodyear House is located in Charlotte, North Carolina's Art's District, "NoDa", and is one of the city's most anticipated openings in years. GYH is slated for opening in late August/Early September 2019. GYH creates an inviting, unpretentious, "everyone is welcome" atmosphere which includes 165+ seats, two full bars, 4 separate yet inter-connected buildings, an open layout and a large outdoor beer garden patio area, which will appeal to young professionals, neighborhood locals, families and dog's alike. The concept offers elements of casual, yet creative dining and drinking situated in the relaxing and friendly atmosphere of a restored 1900-era mill house.

Note from The Owner:"As the owner, this concept has been a true labor of love of mine. I was born and raised in the Midwest, transplanted to the South, and a resident of NoDa. As I have in all my ventures, I am looking to surround myself with only the best and brightest. As such, our Executive Chef is on the top Chef's in all of the Southeast and our Director of Development has similar accolades. We are a young, energetic, fast paced and ambitious team and looking to build something unique, original and substantial with multiple concepts in process for launch in the coming 12-36 months.

We are looking for those with a 'partner' mindsetand not an 'employee' mindset. Those who are energy givers and not energy takers. The Property & Location:Located in a fully repurposed 1900's era mill home on the NoDa neighborhood's main drag, North Davidson Street, GYH is situated just a short 5-minute walk from the 36th street light rail station and is surrounded by growth in every. Surrounded by thousands of new young-professional driven apartment communities and located in the heart of the commercial district, with optimal visibility, the location is second to none. The owner also controls the properties on either side of GYH (located at 3032 N Davidson Street) and is in the process of redeveloping those for additional food/beverage options.

Hostess/Host Job Description

Host/Hostess is one of the most integral positions in a restaurant, you are the first impression and the last impression we leave on our guests. We want to welcome in our guests with open arms and deliver the friendliness, excellent service and high standards that are guests have become accustomed to. The Host/Hostess will warmly greet guests upon arrival, take any and all incoming reservations, monitor a waiting list, enter guest names into the computer system, show guests to their table and bid Guests farewell as they leave. We also will ask that the host help with communicating private parties and events to the appropriate parties.

A Host/Hostess must be able to think proactively, be able to multi task and carry genuine and personable conversations with guests without sounding scripted or intrusive. Additionally, the Host will perform light housekeeping duties such as cleaning and organizing menus and ensuring restrooms are clean, stocked and orderly. As a member of an energetic team, the Host/Hostess may also need to answer the phones and fill to-go orders when needed. Availability must include nights and weekends.

Responsibilities:

  • Enthusiastically and warmly receive all incoming calls and take reservations, take messages or pass along to the appropriate parties.
  • Greet incoming and departing Guests warmly with a genuine smile and eye contact; escort them to assigned dining area; present menus; announce waiter's name
  • Use visual cues to seat Guests in either the bar or dining area depending on their preference.
  • Create small talk and conversation with the guest on the way to the table.
  • Inform Guests of current promotion and who will be serving them to ensure a smooth handoff to the service staff.
  • Manage the flow of Guests into the Dining and Bar areas, provide accurate wait times to incoming Guests if appropriate
  • Tend to special Guest needs and requests also pass along to appropriate team members.
  • Observant to Guests' needs throughout dining experience to ensure they receive high quality service (i.e. notice a drink refill is needed while seating another Guest and ensuring the drink is refilled prior to getting back to the door).
  • Protect establishment and patrons by adhering to sanitation, safety and alcohol control policies
  • Issue dining charges by verifying orders; calculating taxes; totaling bill for to-go orders
  • Receive payments by validating credit charges; approving checks; accepting currency; calculating and issuing change for ToGo orders
  • Reconcile cash drawer by proving cash transactions; listing checks and credit card charges for to-go orders
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to articulate clear greetings and farewells to Guests, as well as being able to understand requests for assistance.
  • Must be able to clearly communicate Guests needs to appropriate team members.
  • Must be able to hear well in a loud environment in order to answer telephone and respond to Guest requests
  • Must be able to walk and stand during entire shift
  • Must be able to reach, bend, stoop and wipe
  • Must be able to articulate clear greetings and farewells to Guests
  • Must be able to understand requests for assistance
  • Must be able to carry trays or supplies lbs.)
