Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; associate degree in business, office administration or a related field preferred; five years of experience in increasingly responsible administrative support work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to communicate effectively; ability and experience composing and disseminating effective correspondence; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal contacts. The incumbent must be a self-starter with the ability to work both independently as well as with other team members. Critical skills needed include accuracy, organization, and the ability to change priorities as needs arise. Experience in a support staff role for law enforcement preferred. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. This position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug testing and alcohol testing. The use of illegal drugs, and/or the use of medical marijuana for this position is prohibited. Employees must not consume or be under the influence of alcohol while on duty, on work premises, or operating agency equipment. This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check. Must be a US citizen or be a lawful permanent resident eligible for naturalization.

Duties

The Chesterfield County Police Department is seeking a part-time Administrative Assistant to support the Vulnerable Populations Division, which includes the Special Victims Unit and School Safety Unit. This role facilitates communication within the department and with external partners, serving as a primary point of contact for the Investigations Bureau. Daily responsibilities include answering phone lines, assisting citizens with tips or concerns, processing purchase orders, and managing incoming and outgoing mail. In addition to general support, this position manages specific technical and financial tasks for the division. The Administrative Assistant will serve as the Payroll Liaison utilizing Workforce Telestaff to enter schedules, run reports, and audit hours against the Computerized Register of Hours. The role also requires the transcription of sensitive interviews, interrogations, and case summaries using the Start/Stop Transcription System. The selected candidate will ensure accuracy in payroll processing and investigative documentation while performing other work as required. This position is part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience.
