Certified Nursing Assistant

Job Summary

Provides basic nursing care to patients under direct supervision. Provides nursing and related services to assure resident safety and attain or maintain the highest practicable physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each resident.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic nursing assistant procedures including restorative care, application of simple dressings and thermal applications.

• Obtains and documents patient's vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, weight, respiration and pulse.

• Provides personal care assistance to patients, including bathing, dressing, eating, bed pans, and assistance with ambulation.

• Maintains patient records and charts to ensure an accurate record of the patient's medical treatment.

• Provides nursing and related services to assure resident safety and attain or maintain the highest practicable physical, mental and psychosocial well-being of each resident.

• Maintains confidentiality of client and unit care data.

• Performs pre-planned activities on evenings and weekends. Thoroughly documents information involving the patient's participation in activities.

• Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, supports quality assessment and performance improvement processes, adheres to safety, environmental and infection control standards.

• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient ranging from adult to geriatric.

• Participates in education programs and in-service meetings.

• Attends meetings as required.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

On-the-job training and sufficient previous clinical experience in assigned areas.

Physical Demands:

• Occasional heavy lifting and carrying
• Prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and crouching
• Lifts, positions, pushes, and/or transfers patients
• Lifts supplies/equipment

Working Conditions:

• Subject to varying and unpredictable situations
• May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases
• Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances
• Exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries and illness)
• Handles emergency or crisis situations
• May perform emergency care
• Subject to long, irregular hours
  Pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries

Education

• High School Diploma or GED

Credentials

• Nursing Assist, Cert

• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
