Teeny Tiny Preschool is a holistic community-based learning center serving children ages 2 months to 5 years and their families. Inspired by a child-led and play-based approach to early learning, we have designed a unique curriculum that allows for the natural child to unfold in a stimulating and comfortable environment.

The assistant teacher and lead teacher spend each day in the classroom facilitating inquiry approaches to learning that provoke thought and inspire playful discovery under supervision of the lead teacher. They participate in extensive documentation and regular reflection upon practice. Together with the lead teacher, the Assistant/float plays an active role in setting and maintaining the physical environment of the classroom, contributing to lesson planning ideas, and monitoring children.

We are looking for a part-time float, with high potential to move into full-time care hours per week initially, with potential for more.

Duties:

• Assist Lead Teacher in directing daily classroom routines
• Prepare and maintain classroom supplies
• Prepare classroom snack twice daily
• Assist with classroom maintenance and cleanliness
• Perform daily and as needed cleaning and organizing tasks
• Observe and monitor children
• Run the after school care program
• Assist children with potty practice and diapering
• Model positive language, appropriate body language, and healthy social habits
• Assist children in activities and self-care routines
• Actively pursue and participate in professional development opportunities
• Communicate effectively with parents and co-workers
• Re-direct children with positive guidance
• Collaborate with staff to maintain tidy and sanitary common spaces
• Attend staff and parent meetings as scheduled
• Find joy in your time with the children

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift 30 lbs
• Must be able to bend, stoop, or kneel to reach children's eye level
• Must be able to sit on floors and or child-sized chairs
• Must be able to spend at least 1 hour outdoors in most weather
• Must be able to write and communicate using English

Minimum qualifications:

• At least 18 years of age
• High School Diploma or completed GED
• Ability to transport one's self to work
• Some experience working with children
• Must attend and complete ALL required and some elective training to state minimum standards
• Understanding of or desire to learn child development
• Awareness of and experience with a variety of creative tools and experiences
• Curiosity and willingness to learn about Reggio Emilia philosophies, democratic education and radical teaching practices
• Strong belief in children's innate intelligence, capability, creativity, and autonomy
• Afternoon availability
