The Joan Phelps Palladino School of Dance is looking for a dynamic, experienced, student-centered educator to teach DAN-161: Jazz I in the Spring 2026 semester. The College seeks an Adjunct Faculty who focuses on experiential learning and active engagement in their classroom. Adjuncts chosen to teach at Dean College create a compelling and professional learning environment for students of diverse learning backgrounds.
All faculty are expected to make active use of the learning management system Canvas at least at the minimum level established by the College. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold one office hour each week for each section they teach. The adjunct pay rate is $3,300 per section for courses that meet for the equivalent of three weekly contact hours per semester.
The Palladino School of Dance provides a course charter with course objectives and learning outcomes and sample syllabi. Adjunct Faculty in Dance positions are filled as needed, based on student enrollment. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Spring 2026 semester begins January 20 and ends May 7, 2026.
This course (DAN 161: Jazz I) is scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:00pm-6:20pm.
Position responsibilities include:
- Create an engaging, student-centered learning environment that emphasizes experiential learning and supports students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
- Implement and assess course objectives and learning outcomes as provided in the School of Dance course charter and sample syllabi.
- Use the Canvas learning management system to support instruction, communication, and assessment at a level consistent with college expectations.
- Hold one office hour per week per course section to provide student support outside of class time.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in the field relevant to the curriculum or related discipline or relevant professional experience, required.
- Preference will be given to candidates who can provide evidence of strong teaching acumen from a sound pedagogical and anatomical model.
- Ability and willingness to be responsive and supportive to students through college online resources and digital tools, required.
- Experience with or willingness to learn Canvas, our learning management system, and classroom media, required.
- Expertise in learner-centered teaching, required.
- Experience using technologies and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy, required.
- Experience and ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse student body with a variety of learning styles, required.
