About the Role

As a Veterinary Assistant/Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting our doctors and providing compassionate care to pets. This position is hands-on and fast-paced, involving both direct animal care and client communication. Our team relies on veterinary assistants and technicians to ensure smooth daily operations, from medical procedures to maintaining a clean and welcoming hospital environment.

  • Job Type: Full-time
  • Schedule: Must be available to work at least two Saturdays per month

What We're Looking For

  • 1+ years of prior experience in a veterinary assistant/technician role at an animal hospital preferred
  • **Animal work experience preferred**

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate care to cats and dogs, including safe handling of fractious or aggressive animals
  • Perform basic clinical tasks: nail trims, anal gland expression, administering vaccinations and injections, drawing blood, administering fluids and medications (oral and subcutaneous)
  • Collect and process diagnostic samples (urine, fecal, blood) and perform routine laboratory tests (ELISA, urinalysis, fecal flotation, blood glucose, hematocrit, total protein)
  • Operate and maintain lab equipment, including microscopes, and handle blood collection tubes appropriately
  • Record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiratory rate/effort, mentation) accurately for hospitalized patients
  • Prepare and refill medications (in-hospital and outside pharmacy)
  • Communicate with clients regarding lab results, post-surgical updates, and other follow-ups as directed by doctors
  • Maintain hospital cleanliness: sanitize cages, runs, wards, exam areas, change litter boxes, do laundry, and restock supplies
  • Support doctors and fellow staff with additional tasks as assigned

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills; able to maintain positive relationships with clients and coworkers
  • Attentive and detail-oriented, with the ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately
  • Compassionate and patient when working with animals, even when they are ill, injured, or stressed
  • Capable of multitasking in a busy environment while remaining calm and professional
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and walk, bend, or stand for extended periods

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $ $22.00 per hour
