CHHS - Dean's Office
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
This project, funded by the New Hanover Community Endowment, will address the looming healthcare workforce shortage in our county. UNCW's College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) in collaboration with the Cape Fear Community College (CFCC), New Hanover County Schools (NHCS), Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, and the New Hanover Community Endowment (NHCE) have developed an implementation plan to transform the healthcare workforce in New Hanover County and our region using a dynamic systems change model. This 3-year project (with possible extension of an additional 2 years) will increase the number of registered nurses and other healthcare practitioners in our community through efforts to recruit, train, and retain nursing and other healthcare students with a commitment to working and living in our region. The plan calls for investments for the residents of New Hanover County to find pathways into local nursing education programs, remain in the area to establish careers and participate in lifetime learning opportunities with our local healthcare system. Each partner will bring resources and expertise to attract, support, recruit, train, and retain more nursing students (and other healthcare professionals).
