Role Overview

BEPC, Inc. is actively seeking a Scientist II to join our client's research team in Pleasanton, CA. This position is ideal for a scientist experienced in molecular biology, biochemistry, assay development, or related domains, who can independently execute experiments, analyze data, troubleshoot, and manage lab documentation with high scientific rigor.

The Scientist II will conduct laboratory experiments using established procedures, document results electronically, analyze data, present findings, and contribute to laboratory maintenance and safety compliance. This role requires strong hands-on technical expertise and the ability to contribute meaningfully to scientific investigations.

Key Responsibilities

Experimental Execution

  • Conduct and monitor laboratory experiments under general supervision using established procedures and scientific principles.
  • Independently execute experiments with accuracy, precision, and consistency.
  • Troubleshoot assay performance issues, optimize protocols, and propose solutions.

Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Analyze experimental data using quantitative methods and scientific software.
  • Summarize results, draw conclusions, and communicate findings to supervisors or project leaders.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain timely, accurate, and consistent
    electronic notebook (ELN)
    records.
  • Ensure all work follows internal safety guidelines and external regulatory requirements (OSHA, ISO, QSR).
  • Participate in lab maintenance, safety programs, and compliance initiatives.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with scientists across departments and participate in project team activities.
  • May work with individuals outside immediate functions or research groups.
  • Stay informed of scientific trends, literature, and developments within area of specialization.

Scientific Problem-Solving

  • Apply broad scientific concepts to address problems of limited scope.
  • Analyze alternative approaches and propose new perspectives to existing solutions.
  • Contribute process improvements and new methodologies where applicable.

Other Duties

  • Assist with instrumentation troubleshooting.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to support research operations.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • BS/BA in Life Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field + 5–10 years relevant industry experience
  • MS in related field + 5–10 years relevant industry experience
  • PhD + 0–3 years relevant industry experience

Technical Expertise

  • Strong hands-on experience in one or more of the following:
  • Molecular biology
  • Biochemistry
  • Phage/yeast/mRNA display
  • PCR
  • ELISA
  • Assay development
  • Cloning
  • Ability to execute and troubleshoot complex laboratory protocols.
  • Strong technical writing skills for documentation and reporting.

Soft Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to work independently while following general instructions.
  • Consistent documentation practices in research or regulated environments.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing independent workstreams or experimental tracks.
  • Experience collaborating in
    cross-functional scientific teams
    .
  • Familiarity with ISO, QSR, and regulated lab requirements.

Additional Requirements this role may require:

  • Handling blood, blood products, and potentially infectious materials (OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Standard).
  • Working with hazardous chemicals, radiological materials, or biological hazards.
  • Use of PPE including safety glasses, lab coats, coveralls, gloves, respiratory protection, or hearing protection.
  • Working in confined spaces when required.
