The Human Resources Specialist manages employee recruitment, onboarding, and engagement initiatives, and leads the student employment programs for the College. The Specialist will have the opportunity to grow in collaboration with the Director and Assistant Director into areas such as employee benefits, compensation, and employee relations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage the staff recruitment process
- Serve as primary administrator of the college's applicant tracking system
- Partner with hiring managers and search committees to ensure that searches are conducted in an effective, efficient, fair, and legally-compliant manner
- Advocate for and implement hiring strategies that promote diversity in new employee pool
- Direct the college's onboarding programs
- Partner with hiring managers to ensure smooth orientation experiences for new hires
- Collaborate with Director to design onboarding processes that set up employees for success
- Collaborate with Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) office on shared faculty/staff onboarding programs
- Lead the college's employee engagement programs
- Participate in the staff meeting committee and other groups implementing programs designed to promote collegiality amongst staff and faculty
- Implement employee recognition programs
- Implement programs to promote employee wellness
- Manage the student employment and summer employment programs
- Help supervisors navigate the position requisition and hiring processes
- Assist student employees with job processes
- Collaborate with the Human Resources Coordinator on student employment administration
- Provide guidance to supervisors on effective supervision and managing employees with performance concerns
- Support the human resources functions of the College
- Learn the Human Resources Coordinator job functions and provide backup to that role
- Triage employee benefit questions and employee relations issues
- Support departmental initiatives designed to increase efficiency and utilize data to drive decision-making
- Review employment policies and make recommendations
- Participate in projects with the Human Resources and Payroll teams
- Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS:
- Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor's degree strongly preferred
- PHR, aPHR, or SHRM-CP certification preferred
- Experience:
- Minimum one year human resources or comparable experience required
- Experience in recruitment and onboarding programs strongly preferred
- Experience implementing employee engagement programs strongly preferred
- Skills :
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Ability to manage sensitive, confidential matters with tact and diplomacy
- Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends of the college
- Plan, schedule and organize workloads and projects with attention to timelines
- Proficiency with wide range of computer software tools, including G-Suite, Microsoft Office, and database software required
- Proficiency with the applicant tracking functions of an HRIS system, such as Ellucian Colleague or UKG Workforce Ready, strongly preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Routine office work includes extensive computer and telephone use
- Involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
- Includes exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or the ability to lift, carry, push or pull, or otherwise move objects with a limited amount of force.
