Overview
  • Responsible for oversight of the design and engineering of nuclear power plant process systems and associated equipment.
  • Managing the design process from concept to preliminary to detailed design.
  • Ensuring department deliverables are produced in accordance with budget, schedule, quality, and technical requirements.
  • Coordinating the design interface between the Nuclear Steam Plant (NSP) and Balance of Plant (BOP) portions of a nuclear power plant.
  • Ensuring work is conducted in accordance with applicable Engineering and Quality Assurance procedures, contract, specifications, and technical requirements.
  • Interfacing with stakeholders—Engineering peers, Procurement, Construction representatives, and prospective equipment/system vendors—to ensure system designs meet performance, safety, regulatory requirements, and are constructable, operable, and maintainable.
  • Approving engineering documents and deliverables.
  • Removing barriers that could impact quality, cost, and schedule performance.
  • Forecasting resource demands for the assigned scope, including required skills, capabilities, and durations.
  • Managing a team of 10–20 engineering staff, fostering a positive and high‑performing work environment through coaching and recognition.
  • Championing safety as a core value and promoting the use of human performance tools to enhance operational excellence.
  • Collaborating with Functional Managers on recruitment, providing performance feedback, and supporting continuous improvement.
About You
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering, or a related field from an accredited university.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in a province of Ontario, in good standing.
  • 10 years of process system analysis and design, with 5+ years of experience leading engineering teams.
  • 5 years of nuclear and/or CANDU technology experience is an asset.
  • Experience managing engineering work with significant interfacing requirements with other engineering teams including Licensing, Safety Analysis, Civil/Structural, and Electrical/I&C.
  • Experience working within a Quality Management System (CSA N286) and quality standards (CSA N299).
  • Experience managing and/or performing work under nuclear codes and standards such as CSA N285 and ASME Section III.
  • Experience performing heat balance and thermal‑hydraulic evaluations.
  • Knowledge of analytical tools used for mechanical and process design (e.g., ANSYS, Mathcad, Flomaster, CATHENA or similar) is an asset.
  • Proven track record of performance in a multidiscipline, dynamic, project delivery environment.
  • Excellent organization and time‑management skills.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as needed (note: the home office is in Mississauga, Ontario).
