Job Summary

The IS team at Canonical supports and maintains all IT production services. As a Senior SRE & GitOps engineer you will drive automation and GitOps, improve our open source tools, collaborate with architects, and maintain core services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead automation and GitOps initiatives as an embedded technical lead.
  • Collaborate with the IS architect to align solutions with the architecture vision.
  • Design and architect services that can be offered to the organization.
  • Develop IaC practices and increase automation across private and public clouds.
  • Automate software operations for reusability and consistency.
  • Maintain responsibility for core services, networks, and infrastructure.
  • Develop skills in troubleshooting, capacity planning, performance investigation; set up and maintain observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch).
  • Provide assistance to globally distributed peers.
  • Receive uninterrupted development time for larger projects and automation.
  • Mentor and share best practices with team members.
  • Handle time‑critical escalations.

Qualifications

  • Modern view on hosting architecture driven by IaC across private and public clouds.
  • Product mindset for developing products.
  • Python development experience on large projects.
  • Experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration.
  • Proven exposure to managing and deploying cloud infrastructure with code.
  • Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls.
  • Affinity with Linux storage (Ceph, databases).
  • Hands‑on administration of enterprise Linux servers.
  • Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
  • Excellent communication in English.
  • Motivated troubleshooting skills from kernel to web.
  • Willingness to learn quickly and be flexible.
  • Passion for open source, especially Ubuntu or Debian.
