This job posting is for an existing vacancy and is intended to fill a current position within our organization.
We are currently looking for Assistant Camp Director to join our team of committed professionals. This Full-time 6 month contract position within the Association is housed at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario’s John Island Camp location near Spanish, ON.
Under the direction of the John Island Camp Director, the Assistant Director supports the supervision of the management team and the associated budget. This role is also responsible for staffing, training, and performance management. The Assistant Director oversees daily programming, kitchen operations, scheduling, and maintenance, while providing support to teachers and chaperones during the spring season.
START DATE: April 1st, 2026
LOCATION: YMCA John Island Camp
RATE OF PAY: $25.00/hour
HOURS: 40 hours/week
Major Responsibilities- Assist with the daily responsibilities of camp including kitchen operations, facility and equipment maintenance
- Develop, implement and deliver camp programming and activities
- Communicate with and support parents, teachers and chaperones
- Support management team with implementing budget and monitoring expenditures
- Ensure camp registration targets are met
- Lead and support management team
- Conduct performance management with direct reports
- Support management team with conducting performance management process
- Oversee Camp's Leadership Programs
- College diploma or University degree in Outdoor Recreation, Business or related field *for education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES with their application
- National Lifeguard Certification (NLS) in good standing is considered an asset
- Ropes Course instructor (Level 2) in good standing is considered an asset
- Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C required
- Wilderness Advanced First Aid in good standing is considered an asset
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a senior role in a camp or outdoor center setting
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience working at summer camps or outdoor centers
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in camp program areas (swimming, canoeing, sailing, kayaking, archery, low ropes, high ropes, backcountry camping)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills (French communication skills are considered an asset)
- Self‑motivated and a strong team player
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Able to lift a maximum of 50lb
- Good interpersonal skills
- Bilingualism in both official languages considered an asset
- Current and satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector
