Position Summary

A General Superintendent is the primary jobsite supervisor with operational responsibility for employees involved in the installation, alteration, addition, and/or repair of electrical systems, conductors, and associated materials and equipment for large, typically ground up projects requiring complex coordination of multiple subordinate supervisors and crews. This is a safety sensitive position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate craft personnel in support of the field's fluctuating labor needs for activities related to construction and maintenance.
  • Direct, support, and mentor all subordinate supervisory personnel. Ensure compliance with safety and administrative requirements.
  • Serve as senior technical advisor. Assist with difficult construction and start-up problems as necessary.
  • Ensure all company, department, and technical policies, procedures, standards, etc., are adhered to. Interpret policies as required.
  • Assist with the implementation and interpretation of safety policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Participate in safety/incident investigations and reviews.
  • Authorize/approve all craft personnel transactions (hires, transfers, wage changes, terminations, etc.) according to individual performance and group needs.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor quality control programs.
  • Monitor and resolve matters relating to work procedures, complaints, damages, accidents, and delays.
  • Participate in the conceptual development of construction projects and oversee their organization, scheduling, and implementation.
  • Requisition supplies and materials for construction projects.
  • Ensure superintendents routinely prepare and submit labor and cost tracking reports.
  • Ensure superintendents are continuously up to date with man loaded project schedules and labor forecasts
  • Assist in the development of supervisory training programs.
  • Partners with safety personnel to promote the Company's safety vision, objectives, strategies, policies, and procedures to build a safety culture dedicated to behaviors which lead to best-in-class results.
  • Leads the Operational Risk Management (ORM) initiative to drive employee engagement and reduce incidents.
  • Outstanding diplomacy, customer-facing, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Provide QEW Training on a regular basis as coordinated with CEC University.
  • coaching and corrective actions.
  • Assist in the supervisory training programs.
  • Travel requirements < 25% (may vary significantly among individuals in this position).
  • Performs other duties as needed to support projects, operations, and the department.

Qualifications

  • High school degree or equivalent; some advanced education and technical training highly desirable
  • Extensive (10+ years) construction labor management experience (or equivalent combination of education/training and related experience.)

Skills & Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of electrical construction (technology, equipment, methods); knowledge of electrical interiors, mechanical and technology construction.
  • Thorough knowledge of company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of OSHA regulations, relevant federal, state, and local guidelines, as well as company safety policies and procedures.
  • OSHA-30 certification (if not currently certified, must be obtained within six (6) months from date of hire.)
  • Outstanding leadership and team-building skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to identify, troubleshoot and resolve problems before major difficulties develop.
  • Ability to manage differences and diversity in the workplace.
  • Outstanding coaching and motivational skills.
  • Outstanding scheduling and forecasting skills.
  • Solid MS Office skills and ability/desire to learn new software.
  • Employment is contingent upon satisfying all jobsite-specific access requirements, with no outstanding restrictions from any jobsite or from working with any of CEC's partnering General Contractors, Owners, Customers, etc.
  • Bilingual (Spanish-Speaking) a plus.
  • Knowledge of electrical, HVAC, controls, technology, and facilities services; and labor skill levels associated with each.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This job may work inside or outside with possible exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures and weather elements in restricted or confined spaces, and on slippery or uneven surfaces. This job may have exposure to working on ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and other exposures typical of heavy construction. This job also operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

  • Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing reaching, bending crawling, standing, or stretching.
  • The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Move about on the feet regularly. Sit for extended periods of time.
  • Requires the ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • May require travel.
  • Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
  • Talk and hear, ability to communicate with others both written and orally and by telephone.
  • Possess good vision, normal or corrected. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision to discern color coded wires, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Possesses good hearing, normal or corrected.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest), as needed.
  • Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required and night shifts, as needed. Must be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite.
  • Must be able to work in the presence of customers and their representatives with little or no interference or disruption to the customer while maintaining a professional and courteous image.
