Apex for Youth empowers underserved Asian and immigrant youth from low-income families in NYC to unlock their potential and a world of possibility. Through programming focusing on health and well-being, education, and community engagement, Apex for Youth creates transformative social connections and celebrates cultural identity to build the confidence and self-efficacy of future generations.
Apex serves approximately 2,700 students annually from Kindergarten through their post-secondary years. We provide children and young adults with opportunities to develop strong relationships with adults who volunteer as consistent and caring mentors and role models.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Development Manager will focus on engaging and growing Apex's annual and pipeline level donors, including both individual contributors and corporate partners. This role will be responsible for 20–40 qualification, cultivation, or solicitation meetings per month and 50–100 annual asks, including event sponsorship solicitations.
The Manager will support fundraising campaigns, donor communications, and cultivation events in collaboration with Development and Marketing teams. They will also serve as a strategic thought partner to the Associate Board, helping guide fundraising initiatives, and supporting the Associate Board's management of the Cornerstone Council.
This role is ideal for a proactive fundraiser who enjoys building relationships, discovering new donors, managing a large portfolio, and executing strategic outreach that drives sustained annual revenue.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Pipeline Development & Portfolio Management (55%)
- Manage a high-volume portfolio of approximately 200–250 individual and corporate prospects giving less than $25K+ annually.
- Conduct 20–40 donor meetings per month to qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors.
- Make 50–100 annual fundraising asks, including individual and corporate gifts, event sponsorships, and campaign contributions.
- Staff donor visits and corporate engagements with programs which may take place on Saturdays.
- Develop targeted cultivation and solicitation strategies to drive year-over-year pipeline growth.
- Maintain accurate and timely activity tracking, moves management, and revenue projections in Salesforce.
- Collaborate with Development leadership to identify new prospect segments and expand the donor base.
Annual Donor Communications Strategy (15%)
- Create a strategy with Marketing for current, lapsed, and future annual level and pipeline donors to engage and grow annual and pipeline giving.
- Work with Marketing to support annual email marketing campaigns, donor communications, and stewardship materials.
Fundraising Events(15%)
- Partner with the Associate Director of Events to drive the fundraising strategy and outreach and follow-up for donors for key fundraising events, , including:
- Annual Gala
- Donor cultivation events
- Associate Board fundraising events
- Lead sponsorship pipeline development and solicitation, ensuring sponsorship asks align with individual giving goals.
- Activate and manage volunteers, such as host committee members or panel speakers, to strategically improve the fundraising impact of events.
Associate Board Fundraising Support (5%)
- Serve as a strategic partner to the Associate Board on fundraising initiatives (e.g., Casino Night, marathon fundraisers).
- Attend Associate Board meetings or events as needed (likely 1-2 times a quarter, includes evening and weekends) and provide support on outreach strategies and donor engagement.
- Coordinate internally to ensure Associate Board fundraising aligns with overall development goals.
Team & Organizational Support (10%)
- Lead projects to support and improve development team initiatives
- Collaborate with program teams Associate Directors to foster alignment between departments.
- Perform additional duties as required to support organizational fundraising success.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 2-4 years of nonprofit fundraising experience, preferably in individual giving or corporate partnerships.
- Experience managing a donor portfolio and conducting a high volume of outreach and meetings.
- Experience supporting events, sponsorships, or campaigns preferred.
- Strong relationship-building, communication, and presentation skills.
- Familiarity with CRM platforms (Salesforce preferred).
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Creative thinker with a proactive and collaborative approach to work.
