Position Summary
The Kitchen Manager is responsible for planning, preparing, and overseeing nutritious meals and snacks for children in accordance with state licensing regulations, USDA guidelines (if applicable), and the daycare's policies. This role ensures a clean, safe, and organized kitchen while supporting the overall health and well-being of children in care.
Key Responsibilities
Meal Planning & Preparation
- Plan and prepare balanced meals and snacks appropriate for children of all ages
- Follow posted menus and accommodate food allergies, medical needs, and special diets
- Ensure meals meet state licensing and nutrition guidelines
- Monitor portion sizes and food presentation for children
Kitchen Operations & Safety
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized kitchen at all times
- Follow proper food handling, storage, and temperature control procedures
- Complete daily cleaning, sanitizing, and dishwashing duties
- Ensure compliance with health department and childcare licensing regulations
Inventory & Ordering
- Monitor food inventory and kitchen supplies
- Place grocery and supply orders within budget guidelines
- Rotate food stock and track expiration dates
- Reduce food waste through proper planning and storage
Record Keeping & Compliance
- Maintain required documentation (menus, food temperatures, cleaning logs, allergy lists)
- Assist with health inspections and licensing visits
- Follow CACFP or similar program guidelines if applicable
Collaboration & Communication
- Communicate daily with directors and classroom staff regarding meals and allergies
- Support special events, celebrations, and school programs as needed
- Model professionalism and positive interactions with children and staff
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Experience in food service, childcare, or institutional kitchens (preferred)
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
- Food Handler's Permit / ServSafe Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
- Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment
Schedule
- Typically Monday–Friday during daycare operating hours
- Hours may vary based on program needs and enrollment

Pay: From $15.00 per hour
Expected hours: 32.5 per week
