Position Summary: The Maintenance Engineer is expected to perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair duties for the property, including but not limited to HVAC, electrical, and plumbing skills.
Qualification Standards
Education & Experience:
- Previous customer service & hotel maintenance experience preferred.
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- At least 3 years' practical experience in one or more of the technical trades (HVAC, Refrigeration, Plumbing, Electrical, etc.)
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in basic English.
Physical Requirements/Competencies
- Long hours are sometimes required.
- Must be able to climb and descend stairs.
- Must be able to move quickly and agilely if a situation requiring quick assistance arises.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and walk long distances, bend, stretch, twist or reach with your body and arms.
- Multitask
- Heavy work - Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- Ability to work under variable temperatures and noise levels.
- Ability to work Outdoors/Indoors, around dust and or mite hazards.
- Work around chemicals, fumes and or odor hazards
Other abilities, skills, knowledge:
- Refrigeration, electrical and plumbing skills, boiler operation and maintenance skills, water treatment and chiller operation knowledge a plus.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Working knowledge of all legal issues in compliance with CFC/EPA/ADA/IAQ/OSHA.
Duties & Functions
Essential:
- Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly, service-oriented manner.
- Ability to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately, handle problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary.
- Work closely with various departments such as Housekeeping, F&B, and Front Office etc. to solve day to day operational issues.
- Perform preventive maintenance and necessary repairs and all hotel equipment, including kitchen, laundry, boiler, plumbing, pool, HVAC, electrical, public space, guest rooms and PM programs.
- Ability to manage the lights and grounds program.
- Make repairs to air conditioner(s) – change filters, clean coils, replace blower motors, etc.
- Maintain pool and spa – clean, vacuum.
- Take chiller and water heater readings and water samples.
- Replace TV's and cable boxes and ability to program movie channel boxes.
- Replace light switches, receptacles, and light bulbs.
- Perform furniture repairs.
- Perform various plumbing repairs – open clogged drains, change FET washers, stems seats, cartridges, handles, drain fittings, etc.
- Trace and repair drain and water lines.
- Repair kitchen equipment.
- Maintain repair records.
- Handle Dangerous Chemicals.
- Ability to work unsupervised and as a team.
- Maintain documents i.e., boiler log, PM logs emergency log.
- Make informed decisions regarding the department and the physical plant.
- Other duties as required.
This hotel functions 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Schedules are made based on business levels and are subject to change.
