Full-time Support
Staff Position Opportunity (Temporary Employee Replacement (Appendix
D, see page 111 of collective agreement), Less than 12 months position with annual
summer layoff (see page 77 of support staff collective agreement)) January 2026 –
January 2027 (with summer layoff between June and July 2027)
Payband: Band J;
Starting Rate: $43.61; Four Year Rate: $50.39
Department: Campus Athletics + Recreation
Hours: 35 hours per week (1) one hour lunch; Monday – Friday; Shift varies
between 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Weekend shifts as required.
Reporting To: Manager of Intercollegiate Athletics
Campus Location: Oshawa

 Duties and Responsibilities: 

The position is
responsible for the assessment, prevention, immediate care, and reconditioning
of musculoskeletal injuries of college and university varsity athletes.  Prevention includes musculoskeletal and
postural evaluation, equipment selection, fitting and repair, warm-up,
conditioning programs, prophylactic or supportive taping and adapting to the
activity environment and facilities.
This role requires
the provision of in clinic rehabilitation care and treatment, on-field
immediate care of injury assessment, emergency life support and first aid,
recognition and management of acute traumatic neurological dysfunction,
preparation and arranging of transfer to emergency services, with the intent of
facilitating return to participation. This role also supports student practicum
placements.
Provide medical care and rehabilitative treatment
to athletes

  • Assessment, medical treatment, and preventative care of injuries such as musculoskeletal, neurological and orthopedic during all varsity games, including but not limited to pre-game and practice taping and stretching.
  • Reviews all pre-placement physical forms of athletes to determine ability to play status at star up of seasons.
  • Conducts baseline IMPACT testing on each athlete to assess evidence of prior or recent head injury.
  • Clinical maintenance and administration

  • Documents with each athlete contact in accordance with Varsity clinic/Health Centre policy, and in accordance with Canadian Athletic Therapists Association & Ontario Athletic Therapists Association standards of practice.
  • Maintain, archive and dispose of varsity medical and treatment records in a confidential manner according to the Health Information Protection Act and the Standards of the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association and Durham College policy.
  • Establish and implement clinic policies and procedures.
  • Perform clerical duties such as booking appointments, dealing with medical equipment suppliers.
  • Maintain inventory, order medical supplies for clinic and varsity medical first aid kits including daily cleaning and maintenance of clinic, including laundry, cleaning treatment tables.
  • Other duties

  •  Work in conjunction with coaches, physicians, interdisciplinary service providers in the Campus Health Centre and other rehabilitation specialists for extended medical care.
  • Provide anti-doping education to all varsity athletes according to the standards set by the Canadian College Athletic Association and Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport.
  • Coordinates, recruits students for practicum placements in collaboration with the University Kinesiology, Faculty of Health Sciences program and Sheridan College.
  • Provides oversight and mentorship to student therapist in placement.
  • Other duties as assigned
  •  Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a 4-year applied degree in an athletic therapy related field.
  • Requires the following certifications valid and in good standing:
  • Certification in CPR and HCP First Aid
  • Certification by the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association.
  • Certification by the Ontario Athletic Therapists Association.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of progressive work experience in field and clinical Athletic Therapy.
  • Varsity experience is an asset
