We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst to assist with the delivery of an enterprise‑scale data platform programme – Snowflake (Design Stage). This will involve working at a leading university, engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, and collaborating with BI and Data Engineering teams.
The Role The Business Analyst will be responsible for collaborating with cross‑functional teams to gather, define, and document data requirements. They will translate business needs into platform features and actionable user stories, ensure alignment of platform capabilities with business processes and enterprise architecture, and support metadata management, data quality initiatives and compliance with data privacy and regulatory standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop a deep understanding of customer processes, strategies, priorities and constraints.
Identify opportunities for process and performance improvement using business and process analysis techniques. Drive and challenge customers’ assumptions about how they will successfully introduce new processes and solutions.
Initiate and contribute to the ongoing development of technical documents for systems requirements, support models, etc., producing process maps, data flow diagrams and functional requirements documents.
Work independently with a diverse group of staff from business and technical areas, and external suppliers, to listen to customers, understand their needs and build relationships across the university.
Play a leading role in analysing, documenting, proposing and recommending solutions for technological and non‑technical change initiatives.
Work with the project sponsor to develop accurate, meaningful and measurable business cases.
Apply a variety of business analysis methods (interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, business process analysis, use cases, task and workflow analysis) to elicit requirements and document business processes.
Critically evaluate requirements gathered from multiple sources and reconcile any conflicts.
Prepare and present business cases, requirements and solution options for diverse audiences and deliverables, deconstructing high‑level information into detail and abstracting to a general understanding where needed.
Deliver functional specifications, business requirements specifications, detailed requirements specifications, use cases and process documentation.
Lead in the production of IT requirements documentation and support formal procurement activities.
Identify and appraise solution options, perform options and gap analysis to inform implementation recommendations.
Produce written reports and present recommendations to project/governance groups, including senior stakeholders and project sponsors.
Act as liaison between the business and project teams, technology suppliers and support teams to ensure the solution meets user requirements and that issues are identified and addressed early.
Develop proposals for service improvements and new solutions with Service Owners for technical and non‑technical audiences, including development of technical documents based on the UML framework and BPMN notation framework.
Liaise with peers – Project Managers, Product Managers, Enterprise & Solution Architects, and System Analysts – to deliver relevant services and projects.
Contribute to evolving the university business analysis methodology via templates, working practices, and collaboration with strategic change colleagues on joint improvement initiatives and peer document reviews.
Person Specification
An honours degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
Business Analyst experience in a large‑scale data environment.
Experience across the end‑to‑end software development lifecycle (essential).
Working knowledge of Snowflake (essential).
Experience with SQL, Excel and BI tools is advantageous.
Experience in process analysis, mapping and design.
Strong understanding of data platforms, cloud technologies and governance.
Excellent written communication skills, able to convey technical or complex ideas clearly and concisely.
Experience within both agile and waterfall delivery methodologies.
Excellent verbal communication, able to negotiate and influence.
Comfortable developing and facilitating stakeholder workshops.
BCS Diploma in Business Analysis or equivalent.
Experience within the higher education sector.
