Description: The Security Officer supports a safe, secure, and welcoming learning environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors across King University's campus community. This highly visible role provides a consistent security presence to deter disruptive or criminal behavior and to respond professionally and promptly to incidents occurring on university property. Security Officers deliver excellent customer service while ensuring adherence to university policies, procedures, and applicable safety regulations. This position is designated as essential personnel and may be required to report to or remain at work during institutional emergencies to protect, recover, and continue university operations.

Minimum Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to qualify for licensure as a security officer in the state of Tennessee
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and prioritize responsibilities
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
• Must qualify to operate a university-owned vehicle
• Ability to perform medium work as defined by the Bureau of Labor Statistics
• Schedule flexibility, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as assigned
• Commitment to adhere to all King University policies and procedures
• Ability to articulate a personal Christian faith and support the mission of King University

Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior experience in campus security, law enforcement, military service, or related field
• Familiarity with de-escalation techniques and customer service–focused security practices
• Experience working in higher education or a faith-based institution

Responsibilities: Campus Patrol and Safety Monitoring
• Conduct regular foot and vehicle patrols of academic buildings, residence halls, parking areas, and campus grounds
• Monitor entryways, access points, and restricted areas to prevent unauthorized access
• Observe and report suspicious activity, safety hazards, and maintenance concerns Incident Response and Reporting
• Respond promptly to campus emergencies, including medical incidents, disturbances, fire alarms, and threats to campus safety
• Contact and coordinate with emergency first responders, including law enforcement, fire, and medical personnel, as needed
• Complete accurate and timely incident reports, daily activity logs, and required documentation Customer Service and Community Engagement
• Assist students, faculty, staff, and visitors with directions, safety escorts, and general inquiries
• Serve as a visible, approachable resource for safety concerns and campus information
• Promote a respectful, inclusive, and service-oriented campus environment Access Control and Policy Enforcement
• Enforce campus rules, regulations, and safety procedures in a professional, non-confrontational manner
• Utilize command presence and de-escalation techniques when addressing violations or concerns
• Monitor identification badges, visitor registration, and building access systems
• Support crowd management and safety operations during campus events Surveillance and Security Technologies
• Monitor security cameras, alarm systems, and communication devices
• Operate university vehicles, radios, incident management software, and other security tools in accordance with departmental standards General and Institutional Responsibilities
• Serve as a mandatory reporter in accordance with the Mandatory Reporters Policy, including reporting harassment, discrimination, or assault involving King University students or employees
• Maintain confidentiality, integrity, and security of personal, student, and institutional information
• Comply with all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations, including but not limited to Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, the Clery Act, OSHA, and accreditation requirements
• Follow all policies outlined in the Employee Handbook and departmental procedures
• Participate in professional development opportunities as directed by the supervisor
• Perform other duties as assigned
