JOBSUMMARY:

The Center Program Manager and Epidemiologist for Texas Southern University's Center for Biomedical and Health Research (CBMHR), and Gulf Coast Collaborative Center for Maternal Health Research Education Advanced Training, Community Engagement, and Health Empowerment (MHREACH), will be responsible for broad administrative leadership of the CBMHR and MHREACH centers, communications with national coordinating center, and focused on supporting the center Principal Investigator(s) and Program Director(s) in achieving the goals of the centers, and ultimately improving health outcomes in the communities we serve.

The center program manager will operationalize the vision of the Centers stakeholders and team, including principal and co-investigators, co-Directors, and project staff. Additionally, this position will oversee daily management of the Centers, data preparation for program evaluation and reports, and ensuring that all members of the team have the resources and guidance they need to carry out the Centers missions.

Additionally, under direct supervision of grant PIs/PD, Administrative and Research Core Directors, the epidemiologist will be responsible for epidemiology and statistic studies and data analysis in the CBMHR and MHREACH. Specifically, responsible for multiple epidemiology studies and leading projects from study design and implementation to data collection, statistical analysis, and publication; providing direct support to the CBMHR leadership, faculty, users and staff members; submitting reports, publishing and presenting data, and applying for funding. Duties assigned to this title will require an in-depth knowledge of epidemiology although other research areas may be considered. The duties will require some publication experience, the exercise of independent discretion and judgment in carrying out research activities, the development of methods of research, and mentoring of students.

Proven track record of managing multiple projects, leading staff, and developing partnerships with key stakeholders within and outside the organization. Extensive experience in general management, strategic planning, identification, application, and execution of grants, budget management, and reporting. Experience serving as an expert source of information, with a collaborative and flexible style. Experience developing trusting long-term relationships with constituents and creating and maintaining a team culture.

This is a Grant Funded position.

Essential Duties Summary

DUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIESFORCENTERMANAGEMENT:

  • Coordinates administrative and financial activities including fundraising coordination, budgeting, space planning, human resources, operations, and communications.
  • Develops relationships with and serves as a liaison for internal and external research collaborators and community partners and external funders/or donors.
  • Develops and implements an organizational structure that supports the research goals and long-term vision of the research team and directors.
  • Contributes to writing and submitting grants, progress, and financial reports.
  • Develops systems to track Centers achievements of goals and objectives.
  • Promotes the Center through media outlets and speaking engagements.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Works to support a healthy, positive, and inclusive work environment that engenders trust and open feedback.

DUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIESFOREPIDEMIOLOGY:

  • Conduct epidemiology projects activities including study design, execution of various experiments, data collection, and data interpretation
  • Complies, writes, and effectively communicates project results to the principal Investigator.
  • Assist PIs, PD, Core directors, and users in progress reports and manuscripts of various projects and progress reports.
  • Performs statistical analysis and interpretation of data for projects and research grants
  • Train undergraduate and Graduate students in research skills.
  • Provides interpretation, responses, and presentation of statistical results
  • Uses a variety of statistical software, methods, and techniques to gather, analyze, and interpret data; advises and assists in the development of inferences and conclusions, statistical analysis strategies
  • Provides consultation on experimental design and statistical research approaches, requirements, and scientific standards.
  • Publish data, presents at conferences and seeks external funding
  • Conducts statistic and data analysis studies for users.

Education

Education for Center Program Manager:

Master's degree in management, public health, social work, health administration, or related field required.

Education for Epidemiology:
Masters or Doctoral degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, statistics, public health, or related field with strong statistical and problem-solving skills.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

Work Experience

Experience for Center Program Manager:

  • The qualified candidate must also have 2-5 years of related experience conducting research/or community programs that involve collaboration with community stakeholders and/or academic partners.
  • Demonstrated progressive supervisory experience.
  • Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment or water treatment system.

Experience for Epidemiology:

  • Programming and data analysis, management and statistical analysis software.

Working/Environmental Conditions

  • Prolonged standing and/or walking.
  • Ability to travel locally or nationally.
  • Handling light weight objects.
  • Using or carrying equipment.
