We are seeking a
Graduate Mechanical Engineer
to join our Light Commercial market sector. This position will allow you to leverage your knowledge and implement mechanical systems that optimize energy efficiency, sustainability, and functionality across multiple client projects This role offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, engage in innovative problem-solving, and contribute to the advancement of the built environment. This role is located in Austin, Texas and has a flexible hybrid work schedule.

Responsibilities
Plumbing System Design & Coordination

  • Support the design of plumbing systems under the direct supervision of a licensed Mechanical Professional Engineer, including domestic water, sanitary, waste, vent, and grease waste systems for commercial facilities (e.g., clinics, restaurants, retail spaces) in compliance with IPC, UPC, and local codes
  • Assist with fixture unit counts, plumbing load calculations, and system sizing to meet flow, pressure, and code requirements
  • Prepare isometric and riser diagrams to aid installation and inspection processes
  • Help identify appropriate piping materials (e.g., PVC, CPVC, copper, PEX, stainless steel) based on specific application needs
  • Participate in the coordination of plumbing layouts with architectural, structural, and mechanical systems to avoid conflicts during construction
  • Contribute to the development of sustainable plumbing solutions, including low-flow fixture selection and water conservation strategies
  • Assist in sizing hot water systems and return lines; apply temperature control and Legionella prevention practices as directed
  • Support the selection and sizing of domestic water booster and sump pump systems under guidance
  • Assist in specifying backflow prevention devices (e.g., RPZ, DCVA, AVB) per project needs and code requirements
  • Aid in the design of grease waste drainage systems, including interceptor sizing and kitchen waste separation, aligned with health and plumbing codes
  • Contribute to medical gas system designs, including oxygen and waste anesthetic gas scavenging systems, ensuring compliance with NFPA 99
  • Support the development and sizing of natural gas systems (low and medium pressure) for plumbing and mechanical equipment, including pressure drop calculations, load summaries, and regulator configurations

HVAC System Design

  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations using HAP software, under supervision, in alignment with ASHRAE standards
  • Assist with HVAC system design, including duct layouts for supply, return, and exhaust air, focusing on efficiency and air quality
  • Contribute to the calculation of ventilation air requirements in accordance with ASHRAE 62.1; support design of outside air and exhaust systems
  • Work closely and collaborate directly with equipment representatives to assist in the selection of mechanical equipment such as RTUs, AHUs, and other HVAC units, based on engineered load data and project specifics
  • Assist in designing gas piping systems for mechanical heating equipment, ensuring compliance with relevant codes

Construction Documentation & Software Proficiency

  • Assist in the preparation of mechanical and plumbing construction documents, including plan layouts, schedules, and technical specifications
  • Use AutoCAD MEP and Revit (MEP) to support 2D drafting and 3D modeling; participate in BIM coordination and clash detection activities
  • Collaborate on cloud-based models through BIM 360 for real-time interdisciplinary coordination

Equipment Sizing & Manufacturer Tools

  • Use manufacturer-specific selection software to support sizing of domestic water heaters, recirculation pumps, mixing valves, and gas-fired equipment (e.g., A.O. Smith, Grundfos, Taco, Watts)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • Minimum of 12 months of experience in Mechanical or Plumbing Engineering within the MEP industry

Desired Qualifications

  • Proficient in AutoCAD MEP, Revit, and Carrier HAP
  • Knowledge of industry codes, including the International Mechanical Code (IMC), International Plumbing Code (IPC), Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), and related standards published by The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE)
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and other regulatory authorities to achieve project objectives and deliver successful outcomes
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrates initiative, is eager to learn, and has a positive attitude towards tackling new challenges
