About The Practice: We are NOT corporately owned, but privately owned by a veterinarian, maintaining that family feel. Our clinic offers spay/neuter surgeries and wellness services to shelter animals, rescues, and targets individuals who cannot afford to have their pets sterilized elsewhere. We are NOT a traditional veterinary practice but still offer top-notch care Our mission is to reduce the pet over-population problem and make it affordable for pet parents to keep their pets healthy in the Birmingham metro area and beyond to avoid relinquishment and therefore decrease shelter euthanasia and increase pet adoption.
This is a fast-paced environment focused on providing high quality, high volume spay and neuter surgeries and wellness services. Our veterinary team averages over 1,000 surgeries per month. The ideal candidate will work well on a team as well as take the initiative to complete tasks as an individual. We look for easy-going, low-drama folks, who maintain a positive attitude and have a sense of humor. Someone who can laugh at themselves when things get tough; someone who gives grace to others when they are tired and overwhelmed. This is an on-the-move kind of job, no time to stand around and be idle, we are busy the entire day. The ideal candidate will be timely, reliable, courteous and respectful to team members, hard-working, detail-oriented, dress professionally (scrubs), an excellent communicator, flexible to sudden change, and easy-going. We are looking for someone who remains positive and pleasant when things get tough. We work hard, but have fun while doing it
Veterinary Technician Assistant: When working in this position, you are assisting the LVTs (Licensed Veterinary Technicians) with restraint during induction of surgery, shaving, and preparing patients for surgery. This job also involves lots of pee and poop also nasty parasites, blood, and vomit. Collect blood samples, administer treatments, monitor patients. Lots of cleaning up after animals. If you are not prepping for surgery, you are assisting in surgery - monitoring anesthesia, setting out packs, cleaning up bloody instruments, moving patients on and off the surgery tables, pulling up and administering requested services and monitoring recovery. All team members also work in kennels. In kennels, you are primarily responsible for keeping all of the patients clean and dry and monitoring recovery, plus loads and loads of very nasty and disgusting laundry.
If you are helping with wellness appointments - you are restraining wiggly dogs, kitties with claws, assisting with vaccine administration, parasite treatments and take home prescriptions. Other duties to be performed include that stinky laundry, stocking and organizing supplies, and setting up the clinic for the next day. Do you love to open 100s of syringes? This job is for you Daily intake and discharge of patients through carpool line with clean up of the facility before and after. Did we mention the carpool line is outside? That's right. We get all kinds of weather - thunderstorms, sweltering humidity, freezing rain, plus clients that have been waiting anxiously to hand off their pet to you. Experience is preferred, but not required. There will be stinky dog poop and pee and cats that are not as happy to see you as you are to see them with this job. Also the cats have sharp nails and know how to use them. Pets that want to share their fleas and ticks with you and possibly ringworm fungus. Pet hair will become your new clothing accessory. We also work with feral cats in traps - it is cumbersome and smelly. You must have loads of patience to work with scaredy cats. Dogs that are growling at you and may try to bite you . Apply now
Other job duties: Cleaning. Cleaning disgusting things. Showing grace to your team mates on a bad day. Being able to laugh at yourself when you are about to fall over from fatigue. A clean and organized work environment is a happy place to be Cleaning up all things pet - hair, pee, poop, blood, vomit, etc. Also, dusting. We love a clean practice
Hours: Mondays 7:00 am - 4:00 pm, Tuesdays and Wednesdays 6:00 am – 4:00 pm, Thursdays 6:00 am - 5:00 pm. NO FRIDAYS, SATURDAYS OR SUNDAYS. Spend your weekends with people you love from outside of work. Some days we finish our work early and go home early - not a guarantee. Team members average about 28-36 hours per week.
Weekly rotation of clinic cell phone. This is a phone we answer for our clients that have concerns about their pet after surgery. Team members are paid an additional $100.00 for each week they have the phone and answer calls from 8 am to 8 pm for the week. After-hours emergencies are EXTREMELY rare, but if you get called in to assist the veterinarian you are compensated time and a half. Emergencies are usually short. Team members usually have the phone once every 6 weeks (ok, ok so the NO WEEKENDS is not entirely true as you are on call the weekend you have the phone, but it is still a pretty sweet gig).
We are closed for major holidays and are closed between Christmas and New Year's, spend the holidays with your loved ones And holidays are PAID
Pay: Based on experience and skill-set. If you are able to draw blood, intubate patients and place IV catheters, you are more valuable to us. Don't yet have these skills? We will teach you and raise your pay as you acquire new skills You must advocate for yourself to acquire these skills. Take the initiative to practice. Pass off each skill 3 times and earn a raise
