Under the general supervision of the Infrastructure Manager, the Network Administrator oversees the county's network and communications systems. This role involves installing, configuring, and maintaining network infrastructure components, including switches, routers, firewalls, access points, and the phone system. The position is responsible for deploying new network devices and ensuring their ongoing performance and reliability within the county's infrastructure
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Expert-level experience in security of network infrastructure, deployment, configuration, optimization, policy management and administering firewalls
Expert-level routing and switching experience (OSPF, BGP, MPLS, Q-in-Q), including LAN/WAN/Security/Architecture
Install, configure, manage, and optimize enterprise-grade wireless access points, controllers, and other wireless technologies.
Strong experience with IP and ethernet technologies (VLAN, QOS, RPVSTP), L1-L7 technologies.
Responsible for maintaining comprehensive documentation describing the LAN\WAN layout and operational considerations.
Responsible for the cabling and wiring of county facilities to ensure network connectivity.
Analyzes system or application usage and plans for growth or increases in network capacity.
Practices network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
Provide Tier 2/3 support for escalated network issues.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs related duties as required.
Requires travel between buildings; may require evenings or weekends.
Must be available for on-call.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Requires an associate degree in related field with 3 to 5 years' experience in network administration with enterprise level setup and troubleshooting.
Experience cloud-based management platforms such as Aruba Central, Extreme Cloud IQ, Arista Threat Management, and Cisco Meraki.
Thorough understanding of ethernet, fiber, and related physical technologies.
Must have valid driver's license, clean driving record and be able to pass an FBI / CJIS fingerprint and background check.
CCNA, Security+, CCNP, and equivalent highly desired.
Experience with Palo Alto, Cisco, Untangle, Extreme, and Aruba are a plus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED
TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements: Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 20 pounds) and occasionally heavier weight (up to 40 pounds). Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines.
Physical Communications: Requires the ability to talk and hear: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear.

Knowledge of Job: Has thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures, and policies of the Information Technology Department as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Network Administrator. Has knowledge of the laws, ordinances, standards, and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Has knowledge in the areas of computer technology and maintenance, information systems management, data processing, etc. Has working knowledge of varying business operations and is able to design / implement computer applications to meet business needs. Can plan, organize, and prioritize daily assignments and work activities. Has good organizational, technical, and human relations skills.
