The Bagger Operator Relief is responsible for providing breaks to primary bagger operators while ensuring seamless operation of bagging equipment. This role maintains product quality, machine efficiency, and safety compliance during production shifts. Key duties include operating bagging machinery, performing quality checks, conducting basic maintenance, and adhering to Barcel USA's standards (including 5S protocols and OSHA regulations).

1. Machine Operation & Production Support
• Operate and monitor bagging machinery to ensure accurate packaging per company specifications.
• Relieve primary bagger operators during breaks/shift changes without disrupting production flow.
• Adjust machine settings (e.g., weight, speed) and troubleshoot minor issues in real time.
2. Quality Assurance
• Conduct visual inspections of packaged products for defects (seal integrity, labeling, etc.).
• Verify compliance with specifications (net weight, batch codes, metal detection results).
• Document and escalate non-conformities to supervisors immediately.
3. Equipment Maintenance
• Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, and minor adjustments to bagging equipment.
• Follow lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures during maintenance.
• Report major malfunctions to maintenance teams promptly.

4. Safety & Compliance
• Adhere to all OSHA standards, PPE requirements, and Barcel USA safety protocols.
• Maintain 5S standards (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) in work areas.
• Participate in safety audits and training sessions.

5. Documentation

  • Record production output, quality checks, and downtime causes accurately.
  • Complete shift logs and incident reports as required.
  • Check production orders.
  • Operate and control packaging equipment.
  • Ensure proper bags and sealing if necessary for each variety.
  • Verify code dates.
  • Verify weights, product height and order completions.
  • Record information such as down time, run time, waste, order completions, package verification, metal detector checks, finished product scoring etc.
  • Monitor for foreign material all the time especially at change over and ensure metal detection checks.
  • Line Communicator & Safety monitor.
  • Inspect and remove defective products and packaging material.
  • Monitor production line, watching for problems such as pile-ups, jams and equipment malfunctions.
  • Remove finished packaged items from the machine and separate rejected items.
  • Clean packaging containers, materials, supplies or work areas using cleaning supplies.
  • Perform physical activities that require considerable movement, such as climbing, lifting, walking, stooping and handling of heavy materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Keep work area clean constantly monitoring for slips, trips and falls.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a production environment, preferably in the food industry.
  • Knowledge of bagging machine operation and maintenance.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality control skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Basic computer skills for record-keeping purposes.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
