Our Health, Safety & Environment group is currently growing and is looking to add a Safety Advisor to the team, based in Vaughan, ON.
Reporting to the Health & Safety Supervisor for Major Projects and Regional Health & Safety Manager for all other projects, the Safety Advisor provides support to supervisor, foremen and workers in the field and provides leadership and coordination of the day-to-day safety requirements of on Valard's Construction sites. This position monitors, audits and reports findings and corrective actions to leadership, as well as provide support, advice and administrative assistance with matters relating to safety, mentoring and coaching to the supervisors, Foreman and workers in the field will all matters relating to Health and Safety. Ultimately it plays an important role in ensuring that Valard's safety culture has been established and adhered to in the field.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Be a visible presence and safety resource in the field to ensure a safe work environment for all Valard employees, contractors, and visitors as per the Site Safety Management Plan (SMP)
- Develop a strong understanding of Valard's Health Safety and Environmental Manual
- Communicate, coach and assist field staff to ensure that all safety expectations are met
- Participate and assist the supervisors and foreman in the investigation of incidents to determine root cause, and corrective actions
- Participate in regular meetings with project safety teams to review issues, trends and upcoming conditions or events to ensure safety obligations are carried out as per client agreement and communicated to the Project Manager and Supervisors
- Review tailboards daily to ensure that hazards are addressed, and a mitigation process is in place; provide feedback to workers to assist them for compliance
- Perform observations, inspections, emergency preparedness drills, as per the current HS&E Manual and review and communicate the findings via safety meetings and postings
- Facilitate weekly safety meetings, capture minutes and prepare weekly / monthly safety reports
- Provide support to the supervisors and foreman to ensure that JSAs are developed and reviewed with the crews and available at the work site
- Regularly review and be familiar with all applicable legislation, and applicable standards and inform Project Manager(s) of any relevant changes
Requirements
- Post-Secondary education in a related field
- 3 years' experience in a field safety position
- A combination of education and experience may be considered
- National Construction Safety Officer Certification
- Experience with Microsoft office applications
- Must have a valid driver's license
Preferred Skills / Qualifications
- CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional), CRST (Canadian Registered Safety Technician) or other Health & Safety certification
- Demonstrated familiarity with applicable provincial legislations
- Root cause investigation experience
