Our client is seeking a seasoned
Engineering Manager
with a strong background in
Hydraulic Design
in
Westland, Michigan
. The ideal candidate will bring at least
10 years of hands-on engineering experience
, with demonstrated expertise in hydraulic systems and a proven ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and complex projects from concept to completion.

You will oversee design activities, provide technical leadership, manage project timelines and budgets, and serve as a key liaison between engineering, manufacturing, and clients. This is a strategic leadership role for someone passionate about innovation, quality, and team development in the hydraulic and mechanical systems space.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers and designers focused on hydraulic systems and product development.
  • Oversee the design, analysis, and validation of hydraulic components and systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, procurement, and sales to deliver on-time and within-budget solutions.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives for design processes, testing protocols, and product performance.
  • Manage project lifecycle from requirements gathering through design, prototyping, testing, and production release.
  • Provide technical guidance and serve as a subject matter expert on hydraulic system design, including pumps, valves, actuators, and fluid dynamics.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes.
  • Assist in recruiting, developing, and retaining top engineering talent.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
    in Mechanical Engineering, Fluid Power Engineering, or a related discipline (Master's degree preferred).
  • 10+ years of engineering experience
    , with at least
    5 years in hydraulic system design
    .
  • 3+ years of leadership or management experience
    , preferably in a manufacturing or product development environment.
  • Proficient with CAD and hydraulic simulation tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, AMESim, MATLAB/Simulink).
  • In-depth knowledge of fluid dynamics, hydraulic circuit design, and relevant standards (e.g., ISO, SAE, NFPA).
  • Strong project management skills with experience managing cross-functional teams and budgets.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational abilities.
  • Experience in automotive, industrial machinery, or aerospace industries is a plus.
