The Operations Administrator supports the Advocacy, and Accessibility Consulting & Compliance Services program areas in promoting and developing ACB's advocacy, accessibility, and legislative initiatives. The Operations Administrator also provides information and referrals to individuals and organizations regarding blindness-related issues.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports the organization vision, mission and core values and implements strategies necessary to achieve them
  • Primary point of contact for members and nonmembers regarding access and civil rights issues pertaining to blindness
  • Monitors media, research reports, and analytics on issues of interest to ACB.
  • Analyzes incoming queries and reaches out to membership to identify rising widespread issues within the blind community.
  • Coordinates Accessibility Consulting and Compliance Services operations.

LEGAL:

  • Provides administrative support to in-house legal counsel
  • Conducts legal research as required by the legal counsel
  • Coordinates with local representatives on nationwide litigation factors, e.g. logistics, casework, travel, etc.

ADVOCACY:

  • Assists members and nonmembers with individual advocacy if required by providing resources, contacts and drafting support letters on their behalf. Regularly tracks case progress.
  • Monitors bills, speeches, and statements of government leaders, political influencers, regulators and legislative bodies.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with other disability and civil and human rights organizations.
  • Provides support in the planning and executing of annual legislative events.
  • Develops and maintains ongoing working relationships with members of Congress, Congressional staff, and agency administrators to promote ACB's legislative and regulatory agendas.
  • Serves as staff liaison to ACB committees, including Advocacy Steering Committee in tandem with the Director of Advocacy & Governmental Affairs.

COMMUNICATION:

  • Assists with preparation of external communication on legislative, judicial, and administrative developments for ACB content channels (e.g., ACB Media Network, social media) and external content channels

INTERN PROGRAM:

  • Assists in supervision of the advocacy intern program.
  • Oversees all administrative responsibilities for the intern program.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This role has no supervisory responsibilities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • 2 - 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience with oral and written case intake.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with legal assistance
  • Experience working with individuals who are blind or have low vision

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment for this role is predominantly an office setting with sedentary work that mostly involves sitting/standing.

This role will be based out of the Alexandria VA office location.

Hybrid – 4 days onsite, 1 day remote

TRAVEL:

  • This role will be required to represent ACB at Congressional and Organizational meetings DC Leadership Conference (held in Washington, D.C. area in March)
  • ACB National Conference & Convention (week-long trip to convention location with on-site responsibilities in July)
  • Possible occasional travel for legal proceedings and industry events.
