About the Role:
Cameron Community Ministries is seeking a caring and dependable Kitchen Assistant – Level 2 to join our Soup Kitchen team. This position, in partnership with Foodlink, plays a vital role in helping us serve hot, nutritious meals to individuals and families in our community who are facing food insecurity.
At Cameron, we believe that every meal served is an opportunity to show compassion, build connections, and offer dignity. The Food Service Employee helps ensure that our kitchen runs smoothly; meals are prepared and served safely, and every guest feels welcomed and respected.
Key Responsibilities:
· Assist with preparing, portioning, and serving daily meals to guests in the Soup Kitchen.
· Help create a warm and respectful dining experience for all who come through our doors.
· Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen and dining area before, during, and after meal service.
· Support with food deliveries, including proper labeling, storage, and rotation of ingredients.
· Follow food safety and sanitation practices as guided by Foodlink and Cameron staff.
· Work as part of a team that values kindness, cooperation, and community.
· Perform other duties as needed to support smooth daily operations.
Qualifications:
· Must hold a Foodlink Food Service Level 2 (L2) Food Handler certification (or equivalent).
· A desire to serve others with empathy, patience, and respect.
· Previous food service experience helpful but not required beyond certification—training provided.
· Ability to follow instructions and work well with a diverse team of staff and volunteers.
· Willingness to learn and uphold food safety and sanitation standards.
· Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
Schedule:
Part-time
Typical hours are Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends or holidays as needed.
Compensation and Benefits:
Pay rate: $18 per hour
Includes paid sick time, vacation time, and paid holidays in accordance with New York State labor laws.
