Job Description

General Purpose of Job:

The Network Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of our enterprise network infrastructure, encompassing both data and voice communications. This role involves configuring and troubleshooting network devices, implementing security measures, and collaborating with other IT teams to ensure network availability and performance for all communication needs. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of networking protocols and technologies, including voice over IP (VoIP) systems, as well as excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Essential Duties:

This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Team members may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.

  • Design, configure, and implement network solutions to meet business requirements, including data and voice network integration.
  • Install, configure, and maintain network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and VoIP phone systems.
  • Troubleshoot complex network performance issues and implement solutions to optimize network efficiency for both data and voice traffic.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to ensure seamless integration of network services with other systems, including voice communication platforms.
  • Implement and maintain network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and VPNs, to protect both data and voice communications.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and troubleshooting guides for data and voice infrastructure.
  • Participate in network capacity planning and performance analysis for both data and voice networks.
  • Stay current with emerging network technologies and industry best practices, including advancements in VoIP and unified communications.VoIP) systems, as well as excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Work Experience

  • Experience with network security tools and practices.
  • Experience with VoIP technologies, including SIP, RTP, and codecs.
  • Experience with network automation tools, preferred.
  • Experience with cloud networking platforms, preferred.
  • Experience with VoIP phone system administration and troubleshooting, preferred.
  • Cisco CCNA, Juniper JNCIS, or equivalent certification, preferred.

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with 5+ years of experience in a network engineering role.
  • Associate's degree in Information Technology or a related field with 3+ years of experience in a network engineering role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong understanding of networking protocols and technologies, including TCP/IP, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), VLANs, and VPNs.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
