HR Generalist – CR&R Incorporated
Position Summary
The HR Generalist at CR&R Inc supports day-to-day HR operations across a large, safety-sensitive, multi-site workforce. This role partners with operations, fleet, customer service, and administrative teams to provide guidance on HR policies, employee relations, onboarding, compliance, benefits, leaves of absence, HR systems, and general HR support. The HR Generalist ensures consistent application of HR processes and contributes to a positive employee experience aligned with CR&R's values and operational culture.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations & Compliance
- Provide guidance on employee relations, performance issues, and policy interpretation.
- Support investigations, corrective actions, documentation, and conflict resolution.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including CA wage & hour, meal/rest laws, FEHA, FMLA/CFRA, and other regulations.
- Maintain accurate employee records and ensure consistent policy application across locations.
Onboarding & Offboarding
- Coordinate the onboarding process for new hires, including orientation and completion of all compliance documentation, and ensuring all onboarding requirements are completed.
- Manage offboarding processes including exit documentation, system access removal, and final file closure.
- Partner with the Recruiting Department to ensure smooth handoff from candidate to employee (no direct recruiting duties).
Benefits & Leaves of Absence
- Support benefits administration including enrollments, terminations, and employee inquiries.
- Assist employees with questions regarding medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement benefits.
- Manage leaves of absence including FMLA, CFRA, ADA accommodation requests, workers' comp-related leaves, and return-to-work coordination.
- Maintain accurate leave tracking and documentation.
Safety, Workers' Compensation & Return-to-Work
- Collaborate with Safety and Risk teams to support workers' compensation cases.
- Facilitate claims reporting, follow-up communication, and coordination with clinic providers.
- Support return-to-work and modified duty assignments; track restrictions and progress.
- Assist in reinforcing a strong safety culture across CR&R facilities.
HR Operations & HRIS Support
- Maintain HRIS data integrity; process changes, promotions, transfers, and terminations.
- Support payroll accuracy by ensuring employee information and timekeeping data are complete and correct.
- Assist with audits, reporting, compliance tracking, and ongoing process improvements.
- Prepare HR documentation, letters, reports, and compliance postings.
Training & Employee Support
- Support employee training initiatives including Harassment Prevention, safety programs, and compliance courses.
- Assist in engagement and retention initiatives.
- Provide guidance to employees and supervisors on HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Serve as a general HR resource to field sites, administrative offices, and corporate teams
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 2–5 years of HR experience; experience in waste management, transportation, logistics, manufacturing, or similar industrial environments preferred.
- Strong knowledge of California employment laws strongly preferred.
- Experience with HRIS systems (Paycom preferred) and strong administrative/organizational skills.
- Excellent communication, confidentiality, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
