Human Resources Manager

Position Summary
The Human Resources Manager provides strategic leadership and oversight of all human resources functions for the Academica school networks, including employee relations, performance management, benefits, and compliance. This position works closely with all school leadership teams to ensure HR practices support a high-performing educational environment and a positive, student-centered culture.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement HR strategies that support the school's mission, academic priorities, and operational goals.
  • Lead initiatives to strengthen staff engagement, school culture, and retention.

Talent Acquisition, Credentialing & Onboarding

  • Oversee full-cycle recruitment for licensed and support staff, including teachers, administrators, and classified employees.
  • Ensure compliance with state educator credentialing/licensure requirements and oversee timely renewals.
  • Draft and update job descriptions aligned with school needs.
  • Manage onboarding and orientation programs to support new employee success when signing up for employee benefit options.

Employee Relations & Support

  • Serve as a resource for employees and administrators regarding personnel issues, conflict resolution, and workplace concerns.
  • Conduct or oversee investigations into employee complaints or policy violations.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to principals and supervisors on HR procedures and best practices.

Performance Evaluation & Professional Growth

  • Oversee school or district performance evaluation systems for licensed and support staff.
  • Ensure evaluation processes are timely, equitable, and aligned with state requirements and school expectations.
  • Support principals and department leaders with goal-setting, coaching, and managing performance concerns.
  • Support school- and/or system-wide training on HR procedures, compliance, professional development, and workplace best practices.

Compensation, Benefits & Leave Management

  • Oversee compensation practices to ensure pay equity, competitive placement, and compliance with contracts or salary schedules.
  • Manage employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement systems (e.g., PERS), and wellness initiatives.
  • Oversee leave administration (FMLA, ADA, workers' compensation, sick leave), ensuring proper documentation and communication.

Compliance, Policy Management & Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including education-specific regulations.
  • Maintain and update HR policies, employee handbooks, and school-specific procedure manuals.
  • Prepare required reports for state departments of education, governing boards, and auditors.
  • Oversee accurate data management and personnel file integrity.

HR Operations & Department Leadership

  • Manage the HR department's daily operations, ensuring efficient, service-oriented support for all staff.
  • Maintain relationships with external partners including benefits providers, legal counsel, recruitment partners, and state agencies.
  • Develop and manage the HR staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Education Administration, Business Administration, or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR) preferred.
  • 5–10 years of progressively responsible HR experience, ideally in a school or public-sector environment.
  • Strong knowledge of K–12 employment laws, educator licensing requirements, and HR best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusting relationships with teachers, administrators, and staff.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and integrity.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $115, $125,000.00 per year
