Duties
- Collect blood samples through venipuncture and skin puncture techniques, adhering to strict aseptic procedures to ensure specimen integrity.
- Prepare and process laboratory specimens accurately, following established protocols for labeling, handling, and transportation to the laboratory.
- Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration when required, providing essential physiological data for patient assessment.
- Maintain detailed documentation of all procedures performed, including specimen details, patient information, and test orders.
- Follow laboratory procedures and techniques diligently to uphold quality standards and safety regulations in clinical settings.
- Assist in the preparation of specimens for testing by applying appropriate laboratory techniques and ensuring proper storage conditions.
- Provide excellent patient service by explaining procedures clearly, addressing concerns with empathy, and ensuring comfort throughout the specimen collection process.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals in hospital or clinic environments to support diagnostic testing and patient care initiatives.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, techniques, and safety protocols essential for accurate specimen collection and processing.
- Proven experience in clinical laboratories or hospital settings performing venipuncture, blood sampling, and specimen handling.
- Excellent patient service skills with the ability to communicate effectively using medical terminology understandable to patients of diverse backgrounds.
- Solid understanding of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to blood collection and patient assessment.
- Familiarity with aseptic technique to prevent contamination during specimen collection and processing.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with vital signs measurement and basic patient care practices to support overall health assessments.
- Knowledge of hospital protocols related to specimen transport, documentation, and infection control standards.
