Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Mechanical Engineer located in Kanata, ON. The candidate will be responsible for designing components, enclosures and assemblies for unmanned vehicles and performing rigorous field testing to ensure quality and reliability. This position requires expertise in thermal management, convective cooling and lightweight materials for effective heat extraction.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Oversee all mechanical design initiatives
  • Collaborate with engineering team and strategic customers to ensure designs are feasible, cost-effective and meet specifications
  • Manage project scopes, design proposals, prototype development and report progress to management
  • Develop detailed plans for manufacturing including version control, bill of materials and test for quality
  • Investigate mechanical failures, troubleshoot production issues and support equipment and process improvements
  • Mentor junior designers and build mechanical team
  • Build in-house printing capabilities and manage external suppliers
  • Prepare special reports, industry white-papers and patent disclosures

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering or Applied Science
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (optional)
  • 5+ years engineering experience in aerospace or related industry
  • Proficiency with Solidworks and AI-based productivity tools
  • Ability to manage concurrent designs under stringent timelines
  • Ability to effectively communicate with and influence technical and non-technical personnel
  • Must qualify for Level II (Secret) Security Clearance
