We're looking for a Data Scientist II to join our Risk Decision Science team at Uber. In this role, you'll apply a data-driven approach to identify, understand, and scope emerging fraud trends on the platform. You'll work closely with a cross-functional team including engineers, product managers, operations, and other data scientists. Your responsibilities will include managing key performance metrics such as fraud losses, false positives, and operational efficiency. The role requires a mix of business and technical skills, along with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.ResponsibilitiesPerform statistical analysis to understand risk and fraud behaviors, contributing to detection features and modelsBuild and maintain fraud rules responding to evolving behaviorsExtract insights from large datasets and develop strategies to mitigate fraudUnderstand risk data, reporting, and key metricsConduct experiments to optimize risk mitigation solutionsCollaborate on projects with global stakeholders across product, engineering, and data science teamsPresent findings to management to inform business decisionsDevelop expertise in specific areas under guidanceParticipate in training and review meetingsWork in a fast-paced environment with high engagementQualificationsMinimum 3 years in a data-focused role (product analytics, business analytics, data science, etc.)Advanced degree in a quantitative field or 5+ years of relevant experienceAt least 3 years of SQL experience (Hive, Spark, etc. a plus)Experience with data analysis and visualization tools like Python, R, TableauStrong skills in defining and communicating performance metricsExcellent communication and stakeholder management skillsProven ability in data storytelling and root cause analysisExperience applying statistical methods to real-world problems with big dataCreative problem-solving and critical thinking skillsAttention to detail and data-driven mindsetAbility to work independently in ambiguous situationsPreferred QualificationsExperience in risk, fraud, or paymentsExperience with experimentation, A/B testing, and statistical modelingProficiency in Python or RAdditional DetailsSalary ranges vary by location, e.g., USD$140,000 - USD$156,000 in San Francisco and Sunnyvale.
