Senior Backend Developer

Job Summary
We are hiring a Senior Backend Developer to design, build, and operate resilient Go microservices on Kubernetes (EKS). You will deliver contract-first services over GraphQL and gRPC, optimize data access across MySQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, and DynamoDB, and ship reliably through GitHub Actions on Amazon Web Services. The role partners closely with Development, Interoperability, Platform Engineering, Quality Assurance, and the React frontend to enable low-latency, observable, and secure services at scale.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement production Go (Golang) microservices with idiomatic concurrency, resilience, and performance tuning.
• Build and evolve contract-first interfaces: GraphQL schemas and Protocol Buffers/gRPC services with versioning and deprecation discipline.
• Develop REST endpoints where appropriate; steward a unified GraphQL gateway with efficient resolvers, batching, and caching.
• Integrate event streams and asynchronous workflows using Amazon Kinesis and Amazon SQS with idempotency, retries, and dead-letter handling.
• Model and optimize data across MySQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, DynamoDB, and S3; implement migrations, backups, and recovery playbooks.
• Instrument services end-to-end with OpenTelemetry and Jaeger; publish operational dashboards and alerts in CloudWatch.
• Ship via GitHub Actions with automated tests, security scans, environment promotion, and safe rollback.
• Collaborate with Interoperability on external contracts and adapters; with Platform Engineering on cluster operations, cost, and reliability; and with Quality Assurance on test strategy and exit gates.
• Participate in code reviews, incident reviews, and performance profiling; contribute to service standards and architecture decision records.

Requirements

• Proven experience in back-end development with a strong focus on Go (Golang) and SQL (MySQL), building production microservices with robust concurrency, performance tuning, and reliability.
• Hands-on expertise with Protocol Buffers/gRPC and GraphQL schema design and evolution, operating contract-first services with code generation and compatibility management.
• Proficiency with Amazon Web Services (EKS, EC2, ECR, S3, DynamoDB, CloudWatch, Kinesis, SQS, SES, Secrets Manager).
• Practical experience with Redis and Elasticsearch; familiarity with caching, search aggregations, and relevance tuning.
• Strong CI/CD discipline using GitHub Actions; containerization with Docker and deployment to Kubernetes (EKS).
• Observability fluency: OpenTelemetry, Jaeger, logs/metrics/traces correlation, and error budget thinking.
• Comfort collaborating with React-based frontends via GraphQL; ability to prevent over-fetching through efficient resolver design.
• Preferred proficiency with Python (tooling/automation), Bash/Shell (build/release scripting), and TypeScript/Node (targeted adapters).
• Experience working in Agile cadences with Jira and Confluence; clear documentation and decision records.

Nice to have

• Experience with Firebase for authentication, push notifications, and real-time events.
• Consumer-driven contract testing and performance testing at service boundaries.
• Security fundamentals: least-privilege access, secret rotation, request signing, and threat modeling.

Educational Requirements

• A bachelor's degree - Computer Science or equivalent quantitative technical discipline is required.
• Master's degree preferred.

Experiential Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in backend development, with significant experience deploying distributed systems at scale.
• 4+ years of hands-on, expert-level experience with Golang in a production microservice environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $131, $167,797.06 per year
