POSITION OVERVIEW: As a Senior Project Engineer - Energy / Civil Structural at LJA Energy, you will serve as a discipline lead responsible for managing civil and structural engineering projects, primarily within the oil and gas sector. This role involves overseeing projects from concept through construction, coordinating design deliverables, and ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements. You will provide technical leadership to project teams, act as engineer of record, and deliver high-quality design solutions across a variety of midstream installations.

A TYPICAL DAY MIGHT INCLUDE:

  • Bidding and executing projects across a wide range of midstream installations, including bid phase support, RFI responses, and technical construction management.
  • Managing projects from initial concept through engineering package distribution and construction completion, including submittal reviews, change proposal evaluations, and record drawing preparation.
  • Delegating design and drafting tasks to team members while serving as engineer of record by affixing your PE stamp and signature.
  • Leading front-end project planning, establishing project-specific technical design bases, identifying deliverables, and coordinating with project management and clients to define design philosophy.
  • Supervising and monitoring civil/structural work activities, setting priorities, and adjusting workloads to meet project deadlines.
  • Preparing structural calculations (manual and software-based) for concrete and steel structures such as foundations, supports, access platforms, and trays.
  • Reviewing geotechnical reports and applying recommendations to determine appropriate foundation systems.
  • Designing civil site elements including layouts, grading, drainage, and paving.
  • Reviewing vendor drawings, redlining for accuracy, and signing off for completeness.
  • Performing quality checks on full civil/structural drawing packages, including site plans, civil details, foundation layouts, and detailed steel/concrete drawings.
  • Applying thorough knowledge of ACI 318, ASCE 7, AISC Steel Construction Manual, OSHA regulations, API standards, and applicable ASTM codes.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas; additional state licensure preferred.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4+ years of experience managing civil/structural engineering projects, preferably in the oil and gas sector.
  • Strong understanding of P&IDs, PFDs, and facility site planning.
  • Excellent knowledge of construction package assembly and design documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, organizational, and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships across multidisciplinary teams.

IDEALLY, YOU SHOULD ALSO HAVE:

  • Hands-on experience in geotechnical coordination and site civil design.
  • Proven leadership managing project teams and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Familiarity with midstream energy facilities, including pipelines, compressor stations, and terminal infrastructure.
