Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide comprehensive nursing care within a correctional facility. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills, experience with diverse patient populations, and the ability to work effectively in a secure environment. This role involves delivering direct patient care, performing assessments, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the health and safety of inmates. The LPN will utilize their expertise in various medical procedures and documentation systems to support the facility's healthcare operations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and health histories.
  • Administer medications, injections, IV infusions, and treatments following established protocols and HIPAA regulations.
  • Perform wound care, catheterization, tube feeding, and sterile procedures such as suturing and specimen collection.
  • Monitor patients' conditions, manage acute pain, and respond promptly to medical emergencies within the correctional setting.
  • Document all patient interactions accurately using EMR/EHR systems.
  • Assist with diagnostic evaluations including laboratory testing, medical imaging coordination, and specialized procedures such as spinal taps or cardiac catheterization.
  • Ensure infection control practices are strictly followed to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals in discharge planning, case management, and post-acute care coordination.
  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory standards including NCQA standards and HIPAA privacy rules.

Experience
Candidates should have a comprehensive background in various healthcare settings such as hospital medicine, emergency medicine, ICU or trauma centers (Level I or II), outpatient clinics, or home & community care environments. Prior experience with diverse patient populations—including geriatrics, pediatrics, neonatal ventilator management, behavioral health, or working with people with disabilities—is highly desirable. Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner is essential. Additional preferred skills include proficiency in ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding, medical documentation accuracy, infection control protocols, and experience administering injections or performing phlebotomy. Candidates must demonstrate strong physiology knowledge, patient assessment skills, and the ability to work under pressure in correctional healthcare settings. This position offers an opportunity for experienced nurses committed to delivering high-quality care in a challenging yet rewarding environment. Candidates must hold an active LPN license valid for practice within the jurisdiction of employment and be willing to adhere to all security protocols required by correctional facilities.
