Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Sushi Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in Japanese cuisine, particularly sushi preparation, and possess a strong commitment to food safety and presentation. This role involves creating high-quality sushi dishes in a fast-paced, fine dining environment, ensuring an exceptional dining experience for our guests. The Sushi Chef will also contribute to menu planning and uphold the standards of culinary excellence.
Duties
- Prepare and assemble sushi dishes with precision, artistry, and adherence to recipes and presentation standards
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the sushi station, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations
- Assist in menu planning, including developing new sushi options and seasonal specials
- Manage ingredient inventory, ensuring freshness and proper storage of seafood and other perishables
- Collaborate with kitchen staff to coordinate meal preparation and service flow
- Ensure all food handling practices meet health department standards
- Contribute to maintaining a welcoming atmosphere by providing excellent food service and engaging with guests when appropriate
- Participate in catering events or special functions as needed
Qualifications
- Proven culinary experience with a focus on sushi preparation and Japanese cuisine
- Strong knife skills and expertise in food handling, food safety, and sanitation practices
- Experience in fine dining settings or upscale restaurants preferred
- Knowledge of menu planning, food presentation, and meal preparation techniques
- Background in the food industry, including kitchen experience, catering, or food service roles
- Excellent attention to detail, creativity, and ability to work efficiently under pressure
- Prior dietary department or dietary aide experience is a plus but not required
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as needed
