Sushi Chef

Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Sushi Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in Japanese cuisine, particularly sushi preparation, and possess a strong commitment to food safety and presentation. This role involves creating high-quality sushi dishes in a fast-paced, fine dining environment, ensuring an exceptional dining experience for our guests. The Sushi Chef will also contribute to menu planning and uphold the standards of culinary excellence.

Duties

• Prepare and assemble sushi dishes with precision, artistry, and adherence to recipes and presentation standards
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the sushi station, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations
• Assist in menu planning, including developing new sushi options and seasonal specials
• Manage ingredient inventory, ensuring freshness and proper storage of seafood and other perishables
• Collaborate with kitchen staff to coordinate meal preparation and service flow
• Ensure all food handling practices meet health department standards
• Contribute to maintaining a welcoming atmosphere by providing excellent food service and engaging with guests when appropriate
• Participate in catering events or special functions as needed

Qualifications

• Proven culinary experience with a focus on sushi preparation and Japanese cuisine
• Strong knife skills and expertise in food handling, food safety, and sanitation practices
• Experience in fine dining settings or upscale restaurants preferred
• Knowledge of menu planning, food presentation, and meal preparation techniques
• Background in the food industry, including kitchen experience, catering, or food service roles
• Excellent attention to detail, creativity, and ability to work efficiently under pressure
• Prior dietary department or dietary aide experience is a plus but not required
• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as needed
