Service Advisor

Overview

Ed Hansen's Muffler Service is seeking an experienced Service Advisor / Shop Manager to oversee daily automotive service operations and deliver outstanding customer service. This position is ideal for a professional with a strong background in automotive service advising, shop management, service writing, estimating, and parts purchasing.

Established in 1985, we are a high-volume exhaust and automotive repair shop with in-house inventory and a loyal customer base. We are expanding into light automotive repair and alignment services, creating long-term growth opportunities for the right candidate. This role serves as the primary liaison between customers, technicians, and ownership to ensure efficient workflow, quality repairs, and customer satisfaction.

Duties

• Greet customers and accurately assess vehicle service and repair needs
• Perform service writing and auto estimating, preparing detailed and accurate repair estimates
• Recommend and upsell automotive services including exhaust systems, alignments, brakes, suspension, and light mechanical repairs
• Manage daily shop operations, scheduling, and workflow
• Dispatch work orders and prioritize jobs based on urgency, technician availability, and parts readiness
• Coordinate closely with technicians to ensure quality repairs and timely completion
• Communicate repair status, recommendations, and timelines to customers
• Order parts and manage automotive inventory levels
• Maintain accurate service records, invoices, and shop documentation
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and maintain a clean, organized work environment
• Work directly with ownership on operational efficiency and shop expansion initiatives
• Support team performance through leadership, training, and process improvement

Experience & Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Service Advisor, Automotive Service Manager, Shop Manager, or Service Writer
• Strong automotive knowledge with experience in automotive repair, diagnostics, exhaust systems, brakes, suspension, and alignments
• Proven experience in auto estimating, parts ordering, and service writing
• Ability to upsell recommended repairs while maintaining excellent customer relationships
• Experience managing shop workflow and coordinating technician schedules
• Strong leadership, organizational, and time-management skills
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical information clearly
• Experience in light automotive repair or alignment services is a plus

Compensation & Benefits

• $75,000–$95,000 annual salary, based on experience
• Monday–Friday schedule (no weekends)
